I would also recommend reading Jesus, Interrupted by Bart Ehrman for a critical "review" of the bible. Ehrman actually started life as a fundamentalist christian, an interesting guy. Although he is now an atheist, his book simply points out factual inaccuracies and conflicting statements without really pushing his agenda. It also includes some interesting discussions of who the apparent authors on the new testament were (and were not), and what was and was not selected for inclusion by the various councils. It's worth reading if you care about such things.
