And those were California mountain prices too, which are always much higher than everywhere else in the USA (except San Francisco's, which are sky high all the time).

Here's a vid of my 300D starting this morning at about 12F, I think it was close to 0F overnight. It took two tries because I tried to start it the first time without touching the peddle.

This is probably nothing for you guys up north, but this is enough to shut most of Houston down for the day. I wonder how many MB diesel owning Houstonians are breaking out the block heaters and switching to 0W-40 for the balmy 25 degree low tomorrow night?
Snowing now in Galveston County, south of Houston, none here in Texas City, but one town north in Kemah, flakes the size of quarters.

Probably around 15 degrees this morning when I started my Cat 3208 in the Bird with no block heater, no glowplugs or ether. Took about 15 seconds of cranking but it fired off. Never tried it under these conditions before. For about 10 minutes, visibility was reduced to about 10' within 100 yds of the bus. Then it cleared up.

Not bad, do you have the afterglow system? I am able to start without touching the pedal ever since I adjusted my idle and rack damper and installed the afterglow system.....even down to the 0F range.

Amazing seeing that odometer at 505k

Yup, I have an afterglow, but I have the idle set at about 550 when it's warm so it won't quite stay running without any peddle when its below about 15-20F. It would have started right away on the first try if I nudged the peddle, but I wanted to see what it would do. This engine probably has about 200K miles (new injectors, adjusted valves, good battery).

The big motors always do pretty well if they are in good shape. The Volvo excavator does the best, but its electronicaly controlled. I started it at -2 last year and it barely smoked or coughed.

Yesterday's snowfall was bleh. It was the most we've had in a while, but the ground wasn't cold enough for accumulation during the snowfall. Car surfaces were another story.
