Snowfall in Houston

They're predicting 2-5 inches of the white stuff here on Friday. It'll stay overnight and Saturday will have highs in the 40s or 50s with clear skies so it'll melt away quickly. This is the first time I've experienced snow forecasted in Houston for two consecutive years (08-09). Usually it's an event that happens here every 10-15 years or so.

This is probably nothing for you guys up north, but this is enough to shut most of Houston down for the day. I wonder how many MB diesel owning Houstonians are breaking out the block heaters and switching to 0W-40 for the balmy 25 degree low tomorrow night?

Gosh man, this is a tropical storm . Today here in Salt Lake City the mercury never went above 32F and for the next several days we are talking 25/26F for HIGH during the day
This morning at 7AM was a pleasant 17F

We are having our first snowfall of the year too, and its a nasty one....about 4" so far of wet heavy (very slippery) snow....the 300E did well driving in it tonight though, the General AltimaxHP tires I put on it perform very well in the snow.

It's somewhere around 5F in denver at the moment, going down to about 0F tonight. I intentionally didn't plug in the 300D to see how well it starts in the morning.

Make a video of it if you can and put it on YouTube, cold starts are interesting to see.

Anyone interested in seeing how a southern raised diesel starts in barely below freezing temps?

My Subaru Outback with the "cold weather package" has the snow thingie covered.

That is why they sell so well, in Lake Tahoe snow country, they are the staff car, everyone buys one.

Meanwhile the old Mercedes sleeps peacefully on the garage.

I didn't know you could see the sun through the smog in NJ.

Just keeping up the Conan O'brien NJ bashing....

What is the "cold weather package"? What extras does that give you?

They're calling for snow showers and 25 F tomorrow night here in San Antonio as well - this must be one heck of a storm system. Had to go up to the cooling towers at work tonight and make sure the basin heaters still worked - 1500 ton A/C units don't work too well if their heat sink is frozen up. Towers wouldn't fair too well either if the water froze up inside all the plastic baffling.

Glad I installed my own "cold weather package" on the Jeep diesel a few weeks ago - I replaced the stock manual buckboard drivers seat with a better quality one salvaged out of an '02 Liberty Limited - leather, better cushioning, 6 way power - and SEAT HEATERS!!!

Man, has that ever felt good the last few days! About 5 minutes is all I can stand on "High" before it starts roasting my backside - but by then that Italian torque monster diesel is warmed up and putting out useable heat. That belt-driven aux heater (Chrysler did get SOMETHING right on this beast) helps matters as well.

It's blessed with ceramic glow plugs, and I've never had a problem starting it down into single digits sans block heater, even with 15W40 dino oil. But I am glad that I thought last Sunday to install the grille blockers over the radiator and block off the fuel cooler as well - keep as much of that heat as possible in the coolant and fuel where I can make use of it. Bloody thing puts out so little heat at idle, sitting at a stoplight with the heater on, I can literally watch the coolant gauge dropping down.
