I totally agree and have thought this since they let him go.

1 - While some may consider it a feather in one's cap to actually capture him, what good will capturing the Boogie Man actually be ? With him incarcerated and/or whatever, an administration form either side of the aisle would no longer be able to justify what we doing for much longer. The Boogie Man is more effective on the loose.

2 - "He" would be more "lethal" so to speak, as a martyr than a 6ft 5 Saudi hiding in the hills of any "istan". We've lived under the "threat" of terrorism for the last 8 years. Imagine the fuel-to-the-fire capturing, imprisoning or executing him would be to his followers...

actually, this "terrorism" goes back a lot longer than eight years. americans just chose not to wake up to it. when was the first wtc bombing, anyway? (and black september goes back to what, 1972?)

Typical thinking has it that when we cut off the head, the serpent dies. However, this is not the case for Al Qaeda. They are autonomous units that take some cues from him at best. Think about this. If they killed Obama, Biden and Pelosi, would USA collapse?

Nonsense. OBL is a mass murderer that needs to be hunted down an killed.

Hunting him down and imprisoning him forever seems better than executing him.....actually holding him in secret would be best. (at an undisclosed location).

but then you don't get the satisfaction of knowing that you have blown him to bits....personally, I think we should eliminate his entire bloodline from the face of the earth.

I'm inclined to agree with that.

However, it would have been vastly more effective, both physically and psychologically, if OBL and his top lieutenants had been eliminated 8 years ago when cornered in Tora Bora. AQ was still a "top-down" organization back then with something resembling a traditional command structure - feeling smug and secure in a friendly host country, full-up training camps out in the open, passing down orders open circuit via personal cell phones that were very easy to track - they hadn't yet morphed into the underground independent cell organization they are today. A swift retaliation then of "cutting off the head" could have had a more damaging effect on the organization, and a greater possibility of making those left think twice before trying any further terrorist acts against the U.S.

I agree. It's a train of thought, but as others stated, who will we invade next ? It's not an organized government or country. It's an ideology. Invade an ideology ? Kill an ideology ? They plotted 9/11 in Germany.. They had camps in Afghanistan, now Pakistan and most likely other places.. Hunt him down and murder him and it will be like roaches scurrying when you turn the lights on, except they'll be coming out into the light..

I think the biggest benefit would be as a point of closure to what is an increasingly pointless 'war'.

isn't it kind of pointless to have a "war" on an emotion?

Emotion works well when you want to steal oil, I'd hardly call it pointless.
