Like Mistress said, it's all intellectual until YOU are the one who is sick and uninsured. THEN, it becomes REAL damned important.

Apparently, it's not very important to most of the people on this thread. Remember, it's their own fault that they got sick and it's their own fault that they don't have health insurance.

If you're the one eating pork rinds on the couch all day and didn't go to school and now you have a minimum wage job who's fault is it when you get sick- mine? Please admit that many folks ARE responsible for their own problems, and health problems are one of them. I sure as hell don't want money I could be spending on my kids well being taken away forcibly from me and spent on some dumbass who made a decision to treat his body like a dump. You smoke tobacco? You ought to be NOT included in the health care bill. You don't exercise? I'm not willing to pay for your related issues. You eat unhealthy food? Why are you asking me to pay for your stupidity? I do concede that folks have health issue out of the blue, but at least as many are responsible for their own problems, and the rest of us have a duty to NOT support people who make the wrong choices over and over and over. Rewarding stupid behavior only leads us all downwards. Instead of spending all this time arguing how to pay for such stupidity, we as a nation- and congress specifically- ought to be figuring out how to punish people that make stupid decisions that hurt all of us, not reward them.

You forgot to mention people who thru no fault of anyone else were born with weak or defective organs. They just suck more from a system than they will ever pay into. Should insurance companys purge these weaker humans and lower the insurance rates? You advocate that nature take its course?

I would on both counts. Yes, it happens thru no fault of their own OR MINE.
