Whoops.

Schools closed yesterday. Businesses closed early at the Governor's request. State employees sent home. All based on a forecast before any flakes actually flew. Here it didn't actually start falling from the sky until 3PM, not quite the midnight predicted. I'd be curious to see the economic impact of their screwed up forecast.

We sent everyone home at 4:00 figuring, hell it must be starting now.

And I thought we were paranoid down here

The difference between southern New England and northern New England is staggering. Those who live with snow on the ground all of the time actually know how to drive in it, school bus drivers included. Here, not so much. It's like everyone forgets how to drive in snow as soon as the last one is cleaned up and they have to learn all over again. Of course a good part of closing panic in our area has to do with living in lawsuit land.

But yes.

They started canceling school in the state for Wed on Tue around 3PM. I was giving our superintendent props for holding out as long as he did, our town didn't actually cancel until 11PM Tue, but since there wasn't any snow building up on the paved surfaces until around 4PM Wed I took those props back.

Out here they closed the schools Monday in Indy for the SB. At least from the new report. One woman was complaining, they would close schools for the SB, but not for snow days. We did get some. They closed county schools last Friday. We were suppose to get a lot, 4-12 inches. We got maybe 3, but with ice. It did rain, then snow, then rain Friday. We did get about 4 inches Monday night. It wasn't bad driving though. We got about an inch or two yesterday. The winds were bad and drifting becomes a problem. I was out in the stuff Saturday, and some of the drifts were a problem. Last night going home from work, I took my usually route. It was fine, till I hit the back country roads. Some of the drifts were above 1 ft. At one point, there were a set of tire tracks or groves in the snow. I would say 1-1/2 to 2 ft. My Ford Contour was struggling. If I stopped or spun out, it was over. A Dodge Pickup was coming, the other way. I couldn't go into my lane, or else. He stopped, backed up and waited. It was clear at the intersection. I waived and said thanks. I waited as I could see a Ford Explorer coming down the way. She did skitter through the intersection, but was OK. I continued down the road. There were some drift, but no one was coming, so I was OK. It was deep at the final raod to my place. I made it and coming was OK today. I didn't take the one road though.
I will say out here, most people have been driving fairly well this season. At least the first snow, I didn't notice anyone trying to do the speed limit. I remeber doing 30-35 mph, while following people. At bit slow for me, but safe.

Some Ashburn,Va pix from today...

The VDOT guy have their acts together now. The major roads and even a lot of the parking lots are clear. The side roads are a mess though.

Snow day in Dallas. I have lived here since 1997 and this is the most snow I have ever seen here. It's beautiful .. especially when you have the day off and can just kick back and relax. We are supposed to get several more inches.

Accu Weather pretty much nailed the accumulation here. They said 3-6 in. on the very eastern edge of the storm in So Jersey. Wed. am there was about 2 inches of snow/slush on the truck. Mostly rain till noon, then turned quickly to HARD and FAST snow. Yardstick in the driveway this morning measured 3 inches. Most of the "Round 2" snow was pretty dry and light. Not much clung to evergreens. Colder today than the day after the last two storms. So, what's the problem, again.

So, the federales in Washington have not worked since Monday? Did I hear that correctly? And the newscast said that 200 million dollars of productivity had been lost. Riiiight.

Actually we have been working remotely and I have been just as non-productive as I am in the office

Does that mean we saved a couple of hundred grand in coffee that wasn't consumed in places like Congress or the Pentagon?

Dude, we have to PAY for our coffee! We can't ride on the back of the tax payers (At least not at DHS) I dunno about the DoD guys - maybe they get free coffee.

We also have to join the "Water Club" to use the water coolers!

The kiddos are love'n this N-TX snow too!
Their school wasn’t canceled, but we give them a “Ferris Bueller Day” every now and then. Today was it, for sure!

Here’s a couple of shots of my daughter (driving) and her friend out back having some fun in the rare white stuff.

(sadly… underneath it all....MUD !!)

Do you think it's that way in Speaker Pelosi's office?

No way on the water cooler?

Do you have to pay to use the WC too?

I asked an IRS agent for his card last year. He said "I don't have one." He explained to me that the agents have to buy their own and he didn't want to spend the money. Career civil cervant. Guess he was proud of his place in the world? What do a box of cards cost? $15-20?
Guess that's govt. policy across the board?
