why does everything I own fail

I just tried to rip all of my music off of my ipod with ephpod and I think it worked but now the ipod just sits there.. powers on.. does nothing and powers off with a click. Plus it looks like ephpod only copied over 500 files out of the 3500... wonderful.

Were they purchased songs through iTunes or ones you scanned from CD's and compressed files?

Thats a bummer. You need to pick up one of those external harddrives. Thats how I back up the files for the ****load of Vinyl I've recorded onto my computer so I never have to do it again. Of course hindsight is 20;20 though.

You could have copied over all of your songs by exposing hidden files and opening the iPod up on your pc like a hard drive. No program needed.

This is going to sound stupid, but it has worked for me in a crunch.

I had a 1st generation Zune 30GB hard drive start making the clicking sound while trying to load a song. It was a sign of a hard drive failure. After searching the net for some kind of life line so that I could get the contents of the drive off, it seems that placing a hard drive or device that uses a hard drive in a freezer for about an hour can let the drive function again for some time until it is inoperable again. I tried it and it worked for me, I was able to copy the songs from the Zune onto my desktop. The Zune actually worked for about a week after that before failing again. No damage was done to the other components of the Zune in the freezing process but you mileage may vary!

Its called entropy. All of nature is falling into a lower energy state, or a state of greater disorder.

well I ran it through diagnostic mode and everything checked out fine. Still clicking though so its possible the harddrive failed while trying to dump all of the files. hurray!

I'm going to wait to stick it in the freezer lol

I was loading the songs onto my laptop so then I could go out and get an external hd to back my stuff up.. my gadgets always seem to fail or what have you when I am trying to be productive

There's a slight difference which you fail to share.

Murphy's Law = everything turns to crap

CLKman's Law = everything gets covered with crap

a windows 7 upgrade lol... now it just seems all of my gadets and electronics fail when I need them the most.

I've got a friend that has fixed many an ipod willing to help me out with opening the case and checking the harddrive cable that is only held in place with a piece of tape.
