The thing that most people fail to realize is that Murphy was a bright-eyed, cock-eyed optimist. The painful reality is far worse.

You know, Murphy's Law MUST apply to the Health Care Bill, too.

Murphy was an engineer. He was just stating the obvious. A part is going to fail, when it is at its maximum stress state. That is usually when it is not the best situation for it to fail.
Now Don's real problem is the Delorean factor . He owned one so he is curse. But he should cheer up. At least he doesn't have to deal with the Bricklin curse. Its worse.
Like yesterday, I took off work. I sold a lathe on E-Bay and I needed to take it to Indy, for shipping. The day was sunny. I got the lathe shipped fairly quickly. The parts store, didn't have the brake hose for the Contour SVT I ordered. So, it might be today or Saturday. I did change the cabin air filter, PVC valve and the fuel filter. So, not a total loss. I was going to get the rotors off ect. The one brake hose I did get, didn't look right.
Well, with that lathe sold, and not doing the rear brakes, I started to clean the shop. I have been working on getting power to another lathe. Its been slow getting a Variable Frequency drive (VDF) hooked up. I only have about 17 inches between the lathe and the wall. The VDF takes about 6 inches. Yes, its cramped. I finally, get power to it, and I get an error message. I think low voltage. Possibly defective VDF. Its been that way on my other machines . Someday, I might be able to make a part.

This reminded me of a great old blues song called "Everything Is Broken." I don't know who wrote it, but I've only heard RL Burnside sing it. You should listen to it sometimes. Some days it just seems like everything is broken . . .

Bob Dylan wrote that song? I assumed it was older than Bob Dylan.

Ive had the same problems with cell phones !

Follow this flow chart:

Find a good solid wall or the ground.

Throw product at it as hard as you can.

Is it working?

If yes continue on.

If no buy a new one as now its clear what is wrong with it.

works on cellphones but its worth a try on a Ipod.

I have actually had three cellphones I have performed this test on, and they all continued their lackluster performance for several months after. One even got dropped ~40ft onto concrete.
Of course, had I had anything important on them they would not have worked. That's Murphy's Law as applied to electronics.

Working in the construction materials testing field does have its advantages. Our standard procedure for frustrating cell phone performance is to place the offending cell phone in our 250,000 pound compression test device. We used enough force on one to create a shallow, cell-phone -shaped depression in a steel spacer.
At least we know what is wrong with them, then.

I had one fall out of my shirt pocket and immediately under the wheel of a 20 ton smooth drum vibrating asphalt roller. When the roller didn't do, the 300+ degrees hot asphalt did. I was not even able to retrieve the SIM chip from that one.

I also had one fall out of a shirt pocket into a tank where we cure our concrete test specimens. The tank is filled with a lime-saturated solution. The cell phones do not tolerate even a quick dip.

My office wanted to give me a Blackberry. I asked them to ask the salesperson how well they tolerated a hostile environment, reminding them that I am a hostile environment. To date I still do not have a Blackberry.
