In the private sector, last hired, first "fired" or let go...

In the government sector, it should be, "Last program started, first program cancelled."

Not "...program that money was appropriated for..." - "...program started..."

If the money is NOT THERE BEFORE the program is to be started and fully funded for, at least, 10 years, then it doesn't get a life...it shouldn't even come out of committee.

OR...

Cancel some other program that lived a "useful life" and should have been "sunsetted" - then see if the "replacement program" will fit in the funding structure.

BUT...

Until our politicians (regardless Party Affiliation/Non-affiliation) get a clue (you the voter, hitting them upside their ballot), they will continue to "buy" the next mono-rail coming to the next Springfield and will continue to "crow" about how they "...saved the poor and indigent..." with your newly raised taxes, soon to be shown to you January 1st.

The "...newly raised taxes..." part won't be spoken of...and when it FINALLY is spoken of...it will get sloughed off.

Thankfully the Government stepped in. Within a few years, both companies will be back. When GM eventually goes public again, snatch up as much stock as possible. I believe the Government is gonna make a tidy profit on their investment in the not so distant future.

We'll see what Fiat does. I have a gut feeling they'll going to do very well. A lot of people are tired of Asian imports and that Italian styling is gonna draw a big crowd for those who want something with flair. We'll see in a couple years.

He can't because it simply is nonsense. The federal government employs way less than 1% of the US population(about 2 million people), excluding the military.

In a word, HELL NO!

If we consider what some call "recent history" (going back to just before the Franco-Prussian War) the answer from a Western European who doesn't know you might be, 'We know better than everyone else but we love other cultures as if they were our own.' the facts are, 'no, no and there is no homogeneous European culture now matter how hard the CM, EEC and now, EU Parliament tries to make it look that way.

However, having lived in Europe for a good while and with family still there, a Central European (German, Pole, Czech) who knows you well enough to be honest, will be honest and will tell you (including some of my own family) Europeans know more of chaos, crisis and war than peace and prosperity (keep in mind this includes time before our lifetimes.) If we go back more than 125 years, chaos, crisis and war was even more rampant.

BINGO! but we know the 'do gooders' will go kicking and screaming all the way to the death of socialism, neo or otherwise. This includes true bankruptcy and the very necessary failure and elimination of the Euro. Yep, I said it (although you and I agree) there are all too many who believe with religious zealotry, the Euro IS too big to fail, when in fact, it's not only failure prone, its very concept is no longer strong enough to support it's own weight. Even rats know that NO ship is too big to sink.

True, we're all human beings but the premise that a farmer in Alsace and a machinist in Stuttgart are somehow entirely equal in their respective economic situations to a Greek goat herder or Albanian tractor mechanic is not only an economic fallacy, it's just plain illogical. What we're seeing is the inevitable de facto death of Marx's economic model. To use his own words, "One worker cannot support two parasites."

The bad thing is those of us who are workers will be forced, at gunpoint (recall the IRS just bought 60 new shotguns) to pay for the funeral.

2013 seems a bit extreme, politically motivated?

The figures I heard this weekend, on PBS Radio, was before the "O" programs...45% of the GDP.

By 2013, over 80% of the GDP.

And finally, by 2019, it will exceed 130% of the GDP.

Apples anyone?

Both parties are responsible for the debt, we still have Reagan's and W's
contribution to pay off O's legacy is still an unknown. Where were all you conservative debt hawks when Bush was president and cutting taxes while starting a expensive war?

My hope is the increased top bracket tax, better IRS funding and a improved
economy will get our debt under control.

Let's not forget the TARP debt was given out as Loans. Much of that has been paidback. Hopefully they reapply those paybacks to lower the debt.

I believe that MANY conservatives criticized Bush for losing his veto pen, and for the runaway spending. I know I did.

But regardless of what Bush did do that contributed to the debt, do you realize that the current administration is spending WAY more, and adding to the debt at ever-increasing rates? What is O doing NOW?
