Wow your lucky, my graduation gift was mailing out a $1k check to pay down one of my student loans.

I got back from the MB Museum yesterday and collapsed. Made it to about 7:00 PM local before going to bed, and woke up a bit after 4:00 AM. All the Cabs around here are Mercedes and VW diesels, so its been fun. Mostly you get the 211 chassis, but there's also alot of 210s, a few new W212 and I even spotted a W124 still in taxi service.

When we pulled up I was so fixated on this car I didn't get a photo of the facade of the museum.

My father and others were a bit tired, hungry, and cranky, so our first stop was the resturaunt. Most of us enjoyed our menu items, except my sister. It tasted fine, but looked, well...

Similar to the Mercedes Classic Center they have "new classics" for sale just before entering their showroom by the restaurant. A very nice '93 500E was there with only 38,000 kilometers, along with an E320 cabrio sportline, and two Evo cosworths, and a few W123s, others. All very pricey.

The new car showroom spans three stories, and the cars get more expensive the higher you go. I got to see some amazing cars we will, unfortunately, never get here.

Then came the museum. Not only are the cars incredible, but the way they're displayed is amazing. For some reason the photos uploaded backwards, so the photos work their way through the museum from end to beginning.

...The gift shop bathroom and one photo of the facade. Tomorrow we go to the Porsche museum and other spots.

It is a SLR (racing 300SL) being transported by a custom high speed flatbed.

I am told the McDonalds around here substitute sausage for chicken nuggets on their menu. I'm off to breakfast.

Very cool trip. There's a road that parallels the coastline all the way around the Mediterranean. It's on my bucket list.
I have never had a problem on a major trip like this with lag. I am so pumped I plow right through it.

On the way back I may crash though!

That race car hauler with the 300 SLR on it is a recreation of the original one which was lost. It is based on a 300s chassis and uses various parts from pontons etc. It was used to haul racing cars back and forth to and from the factory for overnight repairs. I imagine it must have cost the better part of a million to build, but I wouldn't be surprised if MB had all the original drawings. It has been fairly well documented in several magazine articles in the last decade or so. (I keep thinking of stretching a Corvair pickup out to make a hauler for my Miata)

If you were referring to the value of the 300SLR, I have never seen one sold. I imagine the factory may have kept them all. If sold on the auction I imagine somewhere between $20 and 40 million for the one Sir Stirling Moss drove to the mille miglia victory in 1955.

Wonderful stuff! Now I HAVE to visit there.

Those saussages are unbelievably disgusting. Like giant insect eggs. What the hell are they?

The cars on the other hand are fantastic. Those 123's in particular had me drooling. If I had enough money I could actually go there and buy a timewarp 123 straight from the classic center, then go touring thru Europe!

You must be having a blast!

- Peter.
