Thanks for taking the time to upload your pictures while you're on vacation. I love me some rolling art museums.

That four door 928 reminds me of a Pacer! Yikes!

I was drawn to it though as apparently you were, Tyler!

Thanks for sharing some really wonderful pictures!

You'll bringing back a diesel G-Wagon or a shipping container of W123 Euro parts, right?

I'm ruined forever...

After finally getting over the whiplash from turning to look at every car from Germany, I'm now going to have to have jaw surgery after it dropping so much in Nice, France.

I was taken to the airport in Stuttgart this morning by the E270 CDI wagon, and picked up from Nice by this very nice Sprinter.

The hotel is nestled right on the boardwalk, and we were greeted by a grand marble lobby and fresh orchids. For some reason the hotel gave us a complimentary upgrade to a suite, along with a champagne toast, and a chocolate cake to celebrate the girlfriend's upcoming birthday. When they escorted us to the room I thought they surely made some mistake.

The room, for only two people!

...and the view

I don't know how I'm going to top this trip, and I'm not even half way through, or on the freakin' boat yet. I was flipping across this interesting boat book in my room's small library and came across something interesting. Look what the foreign investors were pulling up in.

Tomorrow I get on the boat, and imagine my digs will be much, much smaller, but the voyage should be equally stunning. Next I spend the a few days anchored in Monte Carlo, then a number of other exotic Italian port cities.

Thanks for posting Tyler. That c63 AMG estate would've stopped me in my tracks too.

Nice digs in Nice! You'll crap your pants in Monte Carlo; when I passed through it was exotic after exotic down near the casinos. Make sure you have a fresh memory card for your camera!

Unfortunately the internet connection on the cruise ship was poor and expensive, so I didn't do any updating. I'm in Rome now, relaxing in the hotel room, and am able to catch up.

The day after my previous post we hopped on our sailing hotel, the Wind Surf, and set course towards Monte Carlo. We arrived about a week after the Grand Prix, but the remnants (guard rails, stands, etc) still remained. Our taxi driver (W211 Diesel) took us around the track, and around the sights of the island. The best stop was the prince of Monte Carlo's personal auto collection, which was very impressive.

This is from day one. Other posts coming shortly.

I came across this 300SL parked at an upscale restaurant on our way back from dinner.

The Marina, with the Wind Surf in the background.

The high end casino (with nice cars out front)

If you take out the density high-rise buildings, the coastline looks just like Southern California, especially the drive from Corona Del Mar to San Clemente in Orange County.

Apparently there are some advantages to having money. I remember reading somewhere (perhaps it was Sir Stirling Moss) that ..."They know how to treat people with money in Europe"....his contention that in America people treat you badly if they know you have money, and I believe this is probably true.

I'm not sure why photobucket chooses to upload the photos backwards, so keep that in mind when you scroll through. Day two in Monte Carlo parked next to our boat was the most impressive sail boat I have ever seen. We then ventured in to town for a helicopter flyover the city. Our ship departed that evening, stopping along various Italian ports including Portifino, Portoferrario. Portofino was probably the most beautiful. We hiked up to the castle on the bluff for some incredible views. Visiting Portoferrario off the isle of Elba where Napoleon was exiled, was also very interesting. His main home there was quite modest, but beautiful views nonetheless. I stopped for lunch at a sidewalk cafe and noticed a slow trickle of vintage cars to a point in the marina. It turned out the British Alfa Romeo club was doing a European rally-type tour. This morning I arrived in Rome, and saw the standard sights (coliseum, Parthenon, etc). There were lots of weddings in Rome today, one of which rented this vintage Bentley to take them around the Roman ruins.

Outside the heliport was this 356. He neglected to turn off his headlights, which I corrected before snapping the photo.
