will the postal service ship a radiator?

I sold one and am wondering. The post office is a lot more convenient than the ups.

its a 240 d radiator so it is not huge.

USPS Postage Price Calculator

If they're not too inconvenient for you to access, then you might consider FedEx Home Delivery or FedEx Ground as alternatives.

I have heard of a radiator being shipped by the post office over your way. If you wrap it up in cardboard I cant see a problem. You may need to check that there isnt a weight limit.

For a box that large the Post Office will want $$$$. You can easily go to any UPS store / FedEx store and ship it there for 1/2 the cost probably.

When I shipped my core axles back to CVJ a few years ago Fed Ex was quite a bit cheaper than UPS. And I opened an account with Fed Ex and saved a little more even though I never used the account for anything else until a few years later.

It looks like the post office is about 15. That is good enough if the downtown office will take it. If not I will go to ups I suppose. I don't know where fed ex is.

Thanks for the comments!

If you open an account online with the post office and print out the label and stamp you get free tracking or delivery confirmation I forget which. Otherwise it's a charge at the post office. You should be able to determine if the post office will take it as their site shows how to determine by dimension and weight.

If one is using USPS "Click-N-Ship" to print the label, then Delivery Confirmation is included at no additional cost for Priority Mail packages.

Note, however, that Click-N-Ship won't let one print labels for all of the available domestic services - just Priority Mail and Express Mail. Postage for a wider variety of USPS domestic services can be printed through PayPal, though - also with the discounted rate and free Delivery Confirmation for Priority Mail.

You will make sure it is as clean as you can get it and just tell them that it is an automotive part. Better yet, get your wife to do that. The girls tend to get away with a dumb look and a blank stare better than you and I can. That way they don't freak out and wonder if it is something that will kill half the world. After all, coolant is kinda toxic.

Perhaps so but if you tell them too much, they might want to see it for themselves. Don't volunteer information.

Right. That is always my policy with bureaucrats. In this case it probably won't matter as the fellows who work the window know me well.

If you ship it through USPS, make sure the flat sides are like double thick at least. Then ask them if you can write "NMO" in big letters on both sides. Stands for Non-Machineable Outsides. Means hand sort, not run through the automated system. I know, I worked at the Bulk Mail Center for five years, and it will go through at least one if it is going any distance. Used to see all kinds of things come through. Tires were common. Trees were seasonal.
