Question 2

Windows operating system? If so you used to be able to set this via shortcuts... If I remember rightly right click on the short cut and may be there is a properties option... but eventually you'll find a "open in minimised or maximised" option.

Question 3

Get a UTP cable (normal network cable) and plug it into the back of your laptop and plug the other end into your router / modem / black box...
It should connect. (Make sure you've shut down MS explorer or Firefox before you do this otherwise it might stay in off line mode)

Have fun!

If there is no wireless then you need to go wired. On the back of your wireless router I guess you'll find at least 2 possibly 4 may be more UTP ports. In a way they look like slightly larger USB ports. I guess your router is connected to another box - your modem (although sometimes there are 2 boxes in one) - this will have the type of UTP (network cable) connection I'm talking about.

See the picture in this link (sorry the writing is all in Dutch - ignore that look at the picture!)

http://www.pcwereld.be/forum/algemeen/netwerk-internet-en-telefonie/5584-laptop-naar-pc

You need to use these types of network wires from your laptop (there should be one UTP port on that) to the router / black box in your friend's house (which does not have wireless)

1.If i put the computer to sleep, will it drain the battery or should i just completely turn it off?
2.Every time i go from one site to another,it saves all of them in the top info bar and all of them open one at a time. Is there a setting to stop this?

1) If you suspend the computer then you are still using battery power. If you hibernate the computer all of the information in RAM gets put onto the hard disk and the power goes off.

See

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/h/hibernate_mode.html

2) I guess so - there will undoubtedly be a setting in preferences - I can't tell you exactly as I don't use Microsoft products. If I were you I'd install Firefox - it is free - safe (arguably safer than MS products) - and easy to use. The add ons are also great. If you use Firefox you can get extra protection with Add ons such as Better Privacy and NoScript.

Yes some of the Add ons don't work on all 64 bit operating systems. I'm sure they'll get there in the end.

If you are using Firefox I guess you mean that when you type something in the URL bar / location bar the browser prompts you with where you've been and what you've saved as favourites...

Go to Edit => Preferences => Choose Privacy => At the bottom you'll find the location bar settings. Here you can choose what you want.

Does that help?

I use it in voiceover work I do for an online education program, video and photo editing, bookkeeping, copying movies, you name it. The 15 is for travel. I'll take the G4 anytime.

The problem is that MAC people don't know what is out there in terms of actual speed and performance. The G4 is absolutely ancient. Even the lowest CPU's of today can easily beat it. A co-worker of mine recently picked up a 12" G4 for under $100.....think of what someone spent on it new. (nearly 2k)

In technical specification yes but...

I agree with what you are saying but the software is so much better than Microsoft stuff so you can use them for way longer... alternatively you could use your "normal" PC and install Linux and then may be you can get another 2 - 3 years of use out of your hardware. If you stick with MS products I think the usable life span of the hardware is somewhere between 3 and 4 years depending on the hardware specification at the point of purchase. So I would argue that a MAC is quite a good long term purchase option...

For over 20 years I was MS man, starting with my personal computer running Windows 3.0, later upgrading to 3.1
I've moved to MAC 3 years ago and never looked back. Not a single crash, virus etc. I own 3 MAC's at the moment, 1 desk, 1 powerbook and an old iBook G4. Everyone of them is as fast as anything out there for normal use. iBook is upgraded to 2 GB Ram. They all boot for under 30 sec. You can have any software you need.... I can't say enough good about Mac.
Still have an old IBM T42 running on XP, solely used for diagnostics but that's it.

It is a personal choice, so I respect the people running MS based machine but I am not one of them anymore.
