It is part of his job, everyone in Switzerland has to spend time in the military. He is probably coming back from practice.

All Swiss males are required to have their rifles and ammo in their homes in case of invasion.

BTW I LOVE Swiss rifles, own two looking to add a bunch more. The quality is amazing they Swiss know how to make a rifle!

Figured it was something like that. I work in facilities where security folks are required to carry assault rifles, I'm sure they would rather not.

They suck to carry, 8-10 pounds with a lot of crap to poke you. With the right sling its not to bad. Also the ammo is very heavy, its not to hard to be carrying around 20-30 pounds.

I'm sure they would rather carry pistols but they lack the firepower of a rifle.

Thats why the Secret Service is now using P90's, they are very easy to carry, but pack the punch of a rifle.

The FMG-9 OTOH is very interesting.

true. but the swiss are pretty dull. (and they aren't so noble either. a safe place for tax cheats and other dirty money. and quite friendly with the nazis.) they are'nt known for their artistic expression.

Because the stock and fore grip allow you far more control, and the longer barrel gives the 9mm more velocity. Throw in a 30 round mag and your on par with an MP5.

What I am interested in is how this will impact the CC permits issued by the various states. Will NY now have to honor a permit from the other 49 states like they honor a driver's or marriage license? If so I cannot wait to turn in my NY Driver's license here in Virgina and get a Va driver's license then my Va CCW permit... Will this end the ridiculous laws in NJ where you need a license to buy a bb gun? etc etc...

As for the argument that regular citizens cannot stop an army - 40 million citizens can pretty much stop any army unless it resorts to nukes. While I don;t have the cool toys Hatty has, I am a damn good shot with my Mauser (same rifle the Germans used in both wars) and my other rifles.

The 2nd is the most important amendment. Without it who says the other 9 in the BoR should stay. The schools in Arlington already teach an 'alternative bill of rights'

Freedom from fear
Freedom from hunger
Freedom to learn
Freedom of expression
and a couple more I forget...

damn, I am kind of happy that you don't seem to know that people in this country can actually own machine guns, too. I can only imagine the angst that is going to cause..

Remember the movie Red Dawn? One of the first things the Russians did was get a record of all the gun owners in town in order to seize the weapons before anyone caused trouble. Makes sense for any would be invader to do.

uh, no offense, but using a two-bit action film as a justification and a historical source is...well, ludicrous. can i qualify as a fireman because i watched "backdraft"?

well, congress interviewed Sally Fields & Meryl Streep regarding alar and apples just because they played farmers or farmer's wives in the movies...so I guess anything is possible.
