absolutely.... effective or not, it would be the last act of freedom for many. dying for freedom is better than living on ones's knees in a totalitarian state.

it's worked before and these folk didn't even own guns when the massacres started.

AZ new law is basically the same as the existing federal law. AZ has a right to protect its citizens if the fed won't. If Mexican drug gangs were coming across the border and stealing/killing en masse, and Uncle Sam did nothing to stop it, do you think a state has a right to send police/troops to the border to stop that?

States limiting gun ownership is just as bad as the state of AZ trying to require citizens to prove their citizenship on demand. It is not acceptable to incrementally erode rights that are specifically protected.

Listen, I have no problem with private gun ownership; but if you think you constitute a militia that is going to defend yourself against anyone better armed than the average middle-school student you are living in a fantasy world. This isn't 1788, it's not even 1945, a house-to-house infantry battle is not in our future.

I guess a federal judge will decide if it's "basically the same as the existing federal law."

It's a heads-up, wake-up call to know that four USSC Justices voted AGAINST THE UNITED STATES' 2ND AMENDMENT. -Unreal!

its frightening to think that some of the people on this forum actually own guns. and the most vociferous defenders of this alleged "right" seem to be the most easily manipulated, hotheaded simpletons. i'm sure that 99% of you gun people have never even been in combat, while all the vietnam, korea and ww2 guys (who were in the s**t) that i've met and known wanted nothing to do with weapons once they got back home.

( i do like the mercedes information i get here. )

yes, why not all nine? (and no, it's not the second amendmant, but rather the interpretation thereof)

In the last 2 decissions concerning the 2nd amendment the majority opinion has been narrowly crafted. I can envision a challenge to laws prohibiting felons from possessing firearms since no such proscription exists in the amendment.

yes, an amendmant written 200 + years ago, rather vague even at inception, should be seen in only one light, which of course is that of the gun lovers. and the sun revolves around the earth - which is flat of course. let's go find some witches and then hang us some horse thieves, by golly. ah, the good old days. (of course, most felons were executed back then, but let's not let facts get in the way of this exercise.)

Yes absolutly. I expect it to be very effective.

Look at what they can do in Afgahnistan to us with weapons that are junk. Look at all the trouble the Germans had in WW2 behind the lines.

History is full of cases of the best militarys in the world at the time being brought to their knees by rag tag groups determined not to lose.

The 2nd was designed to give our other rights teeth. You can subjugate an unarmed man with ease if you are armed. But an armed population, and in this country's case quite well armed is a bit harder to do. They shoot back. The 20th century is full of examples of governments that killed tens of millions of their people. Governments have a very poor track record in this regard.

Now who do you expect to invade this country? Mexico?

No one, but I can't see the future. The world might look pretty different 50 or 100 years down the road. Just because you don't need the right today doesn't mean it should be thrown away. Because once its gone its not coming back.

OTOH if I lived on the border and was in the middle of the drug cartels shooting it out with law enforcement I might have a very different opinion on the matter.

Firearms available to the citizens are not gonna be of any use in an invasion of this country. There arer plenty of reasons to honor the 2nd amendment without resorting to hyperbole.

I wonder if this will shut up some of the "Obama's gonna take all our guns away" hysteria. Probably not. I'm sick of these paranoid idiots driving up the price of ammunition.
