Have only gotten warning for speeding tickets from the DPS out on the open highway driving Texas Interstates and US Hwys. All in my old Caddy or Lincoln years ago.

I don't speed in my diesel motorcoach, so I'm bulletproof on the open highways. Something about stopping 7+ tons that freaks me out!

In the Mercedes-Benz 300SD many years ago I got a ticket for 10+ over in Cheneyville, LA. a small town - cost me $90.00 or so bucks to get my DL back too!

Back in the real hayday of the CB fad, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrdQnJR7tDw&feature=related I was following a guy out the PA Tpke and we both passed an unmarked PA statie who was, you guessed it, listening to us speeding his way. He pulled us both over a little east of Harrisburg, my destination.
Back then, I got no points on my Jersey license as there was no out of state repercussions if you paid the ticket. Or so the trooper told me. The other guy got PA points.
IIRC, the ticket was a $40.00 mail in. Back then I think the limits were 55 and we were doing better than 70.)

This may be a dumb question, but do CB radios still exist? I don't think I've seen one in 30 years, I think my dad had one for a little while in the early 70s.

Dunno. Haven't had one since I got rid of said car I was ticketed in. And I don't think I have had a moving violation since. Stopped once, but the cop gave me a warning about 5 years ago

I was watching a movie a while ago with some kid who came across an old CB radio and asked what it was; his friend told him that it was "stone age Internet."

Then you must speak Spanish.

If you try to speak English on channel 19 you will get "stepped on" and drowned out.

on long trips, I crank it to Channel 19 and listen only. not only do the truckers point out EXACTLY where the bears are, they also send out alerts as to the location of highway wrecks. one time they alerted listeners to a jack knifed semi that had jack knifed across both lanes of the interstate. I was traveling at 70 MPH and looked to the mile marker which indicated I was less than one half mile from the accident scene. sure enough, as soon as I came over a hill, there staring me in the face was the jack knifed semi. had I not been listening to the CB, I would have been flying and probably would have ended up in the middle of the accident.

that's too bad, I don't think I could listen to Channel 19 if that's the way it is in California. whatever happened to the Super Highway exclusively for Mexican truckers idea that Bush was going to build beginning in Mexico going through Texas, Oklahoma and ending in Kansas City? there was some talk that the Mexican truck drivers were not going to have to comply with U.S. safety regulations, etc etc. (it's been a while so I've forgotten most of the details....)

Thanks, I was always wondered where intro sound clips in this song came from....

Yes, they haven't changed much either. Although I suppose there's not much reason to change much. I was a kid when the CB craze hit in the 70's and my father had one in all of our cars. My grandfather even had one in his Lincoln. The only reason I know they're still available is because I buy them for our larger delivery trucks. They do come in handy for traffic reports and weigh station openings.

I used to listen to the chatter when I was traveling late at night for entertainment and speed trap warnings. Until I had kids.

I35 is wide and heading North Bound - unfortunately OK doesn't have the money so it will probably merge from 8 lanes to 2 at the border

We have speed cams, red light cams, and random sobriety checkpoints. I realize its all for the 'greater good' but there is definitely a big-brother atmosphere that I don't like.

All I remember about CBs (from when I was a kid) was a lot of noise from people who I probably wouldn't want to speak to in real life.
