Dishwasher experience?
My dishwasher has gone out. It seems to be in the panel with the buttons. It is a Kenmore with stainless front and tub and may be around 10 years old. My sister sells appliances and says even good brands of dw only last ten years and cheap ones last four.
I asked if there were any that just have very simple controls like the old fashoned twisty knobs which seem to last forever. She made fun of me. She did say that Bosch offers one with actual push buttons. Anybody have experience with them? Any sage thoughts are welcome. ![]()

I'd be worried that the "actual push buttons" still control a computer.
You can probably buy a new panel for your current unit, if the rest of it is still working. That's a lot cheaper and easier than replacing the whole thing. |

I've give up trying to fix them, I just replace them hen they stop working.

A few years back I went through this; I just wanted a simple dishwasher that was about $500-$600, would be reliable, and not come with a thousand pushbutton gadgets that I'd never use. ConsumerRep suggested the Kenmore with QuiteGuard 3, and IIRC the more you pay the quieter they are.
Here's the current CR models in order of overall score: Bosch SHE55M1[2]UC, $850 Kenmore 1374[2], $650 Kenmore Elite UltraWash HE 1312[2], $780 KitchenAid KUDS30IV[WH], $675 Bosch SHX43P1[2]UC, $800 You can research those and see which ones you like. The pricier ones are $1200-$1500, but if you hang around an old MB site, you probably like "bang for the buck".

I agree with Craig.
The wife and I have the KitchenAid POS mentioned and are pleased with it. It's basically just us now so it doesn't get used heavily. Nice, simple and relatively quiet. We've had it for 6 years and still seems to work. At least the dishes don't come out dirtier than they went in which was the case with the washer it replaced. ![]() |

It's hard to go wrong with a KitchenAid appliance.

It seems that appliance are beginning to mimic cars- loaded down with useless accessories and features that the average user does not need, understand, or want to pay to have repaired.

Yup, they are both completely disposable now.

The one before the present one was kitchenade I think.
Thanks for the comments so far. I am not keen on paying 600 plus for something that will only last ten years. I wonder if I could find a classic from the eighties?

$600 for 10 years = about $1/week. Most $30k cars only last 10 years.
Besides, I'll be happy if I last 10 years. |

My parents have a Frigidaire basic dishwasher with electronic controls, they use it multiple times per day and it has yet to give up after 5 years of use....best part, it cost $289 and does a nice job.
My new house came with a fancy Whirlpool unit that is brand new, works well, but we'll see how long it lasts. We only do about 3-4 loads of dishes a week....

Got a 70's or 80's bronze model free 'at the curb'. Came from an office building where it wasn't used much. One can of white epoxy spray paint and ten years later it is still working fine.

two hands, a stainless steel Chore Boy scrubber and a bottle of Dawn and my 16 year old "dishwasher" is good to go. That's what kids are for.

Mid-range Kenmore / Whirlpool is the best bang for the buck. The tall tub models have amazing room inside but a ***** to install due to less clearance underneath. Spend a little extra on the nylon racks which are a lot tougher. Some people like the stainless tub which lasts forever, but the rest of the unit will still only last 10-15 years.
