The feeling that comes the split second you realize that you aren't going to make it around the huge pillow and the canoe is going to drop into a steep hole sideways.

The hopelessness that arises the moment the first barred gate clangs shut behind you in a federal prison.

When you hit black ice and when the car is in a four wheel slide heading for a ditch and there's nothing you can do.

I miss walking barefoot, used to do that all the time growing up in Oklahoma. Now I can't walk barefoot, not even in the house. I don't feel comfortable walking around the house with shoes, so I wear flip flops. Anyway, I know that squishy feeling too well!

I hate the feeling that you get when reality sinks in and the girl you've been crushing on doesn't feel the same way.

Even worse, when you're walking through your living room and that happens . . .

When you've run yourself ragged with work (or used to be school for me), finally get a chance to relax or sleep, and thoughts start boiling up in the back of your mind that you've forgotten to do something.

Taking a car back to the shop for the second time after spending alot of money to address the same problem the first time.

Waking up and not remembering where you are.

Getting in a situation where the outcome is completely out of your control.

Starting the car after an oil change, and seeing the Valdez effect spreading across the driveway....

I know, that's hitting below the belt....

or the highway. I watch my oil pressure gauges more than my speed with all the trauma I've had.

Having a conversation with someone who makes a joke at the expense of a minority group you fall into, but not having the balls to stand up to them about it.

While not a member of a minority, I can kind of understand where you're coming from. As the father of a kid with Down syndrome I find "retard" jokes abhorrent. For whatever reason, it's still socially acceptable to make fun of those with intellectual disabilities in movies, on network tv, on the radio, etc. Even here. But depending on the situation, I have bitten my tongue and feel awful about not saying something. There's no worse feeling than letting your kid down.
