The second detent is for the rear fogs. The amber light is a reminder that you have your rear fog on.

I don't know if it's still the law in Germany but it used to be you could only use the rear fog in very low visibility which also meant you weren't allowed to go above 50 kmh. Since you can't see the red fog, the amber light was there to remind you that you should drive slow or turn it off.

No. But thats my fear. Although its a new MB battery that is about as big as the back seat.

And I would love that orange dot to light up. I was going to ask if it was suppose to. And it makes sense that it is for the rear fog since the front fog lights are pretty hard to miss when on! I would also thus like to install the rear fog light. Do they just require the install of a lamp holder or is major wiring needed?

And I found out about a BIG TIME MB guy in my area that apparently has anything and everything on hand. Parts are So hard to find around here. Apparently he should have a trans for me (which I need desperately).

And goo to know that the standby lights can be on for hours, but I wonder how many with a strong battery. I did notice the car does start well with a weak one. I was working on the car and had the stereo booming for a few hours, but even with weak crank she fired up! My Mark VIII would have never done so.
