Just buy a gold ETF such as GLD. You can buy it like a stock. Keep in mind it is taxed like gold, as a collectible, not an investment.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know about that ETF.
My problem with it would be not being able to lay hands on my gold.

Some people hide from the truth for so long that they forget what it looks like.
Yes, the united states is defiantly in decline, there is no doubt. We have followed the same path as many other cultures that have suddenly fallen. ie.. Roman, Mayan. Every statistic mentioned in the article is true and can be verified. I checked most. Within the next 5 to 10 years there will be water, food, and oil shortages. Our financial system has been undermined by rich, and people are losing faith in the dollar, and that is its only backing. The economy has no way to recover. We do not manufacture any goods in the US, and we have squandered our natural resources. The economy will collapse under these two strains. There will be major riots in the US streets over water, food, shelter. Just as there are in many other countries now. There will be a huge reduction in population as all of the people who think that killing for food, water, resources is the answer will divide into groups and kill one another. We are already building walls to keep out the foreigners, and committing genocide for oil. There will be a huge extinction of all life, including humans as a result of these wars. As a result of this near extinction, the human species will be cleaned of the genetic predisposition towards killing and slavery. The remaining humans will be much more peaceful and communal. This process has played itself out in primates many times. As the population grows too large to be supported by the land, they start to war with neighbors. Leaving only the primates that do not engage in the fights, who become much more peaceful, and compassionate. What will be left will be interconnected communes of roughly 100 - 150 people per area. And there will be a five to one ratio of females to males in these communes. My predictions have almost always been correct. And are based on many many facts. If you are still alive, and there is still an internet in 10 years come back to this thread and tell me I was wrong. But for now, please continue enslaving and killing one another. Keep fighting for more resources than your neighbor has. Keep believing in what you call progress. Keep consuming. Or Come and visit me and my five girlfriends at the commune. Its your choice.

Italy taxes everything to 20% and has excise taxes to 60%. You cannot own a home in Italy, only the wealthy do and you can't even own your apartment. Jobs are extremely difficult to get unless you want to be a waiter or a clerk. Professional degrees except medicine and a couple from special universities are considered one cut above South Dakota High. Yes you have free health care, it is abysmal. You get better health care by bribing people. The society is on where you can br, to get out of accidents. so if you report the accident, you end up paying, because the other guy bribed more. It's like Romainia in that regard. France has excellent health care if you stay there after 90 days. The country requires you to learn enough French to communicate with the police within 5 years or you can be deported. The legal system is: guilty as accused unless proven innocent. You can eke out a living unless you are willing to spend maybe 6 years at university, which is good and also cheap. I went there, I know. Foreigners who don't have a lot of ney or an excellent command of the language get relegated to second-class. The unemployment rate has been 10-11% for six years and the sales tax is 20%, very few imports, and very few DIY. Life is good there if you speak French well, have a profession, and create a network to get around. Germany is very similar to France in many respects except you can supplement the health care with your own paid stuff. Unemployment is 9%, the cities are very crowded outside the ghettos. Taxes and fines are high, speeding is severely enforced, sales tak is now 18%, unemployment is 9% and the chances of getting swine flu are about 75 times greater there than here, because the immigrant population is not as sanitation conscious as the Germans but they have all the sanitation jobs! There are currently 175,000 serious cases of swine flu in Germany, like the kind that can cause death. Most are in the immigrant neighborhoods in the southern cities. So you have to wonder about the guy who handed you that doner kebap you bought. I am disappointed in the UK. Nothing runs on time, everything is very costly especially in London, there's almost no manufacturing and the socialist meality of let's all share YOUR wealth is prevalent there. plus they are raising the VAT to 20% as of Jan 1. Japan is a very orderly country that has a lot of subsistance food. If you want to live on the food in soba bars, you cam but it's not exactly a healthy diet. Taxes are he same as Europe, housing is very crowded, health care is built on, but different from the American system, jobs are impossible for an American to get unless you are a really hot blonde who speaks Japanese or a doctor. Unemployment unknown, because they don't like anyone to know the precise figures, estimated about 7

Notice the OP's link said nothing of this? Boils down the the post I made about sour grapes and the "hippie" comment IMHO.

Chulcutt, I think the biggest issue I have is that Dmitry, who penned this blog, doesn't realize that many of the things he discussed as existing in the US exist EVEWHERE. You can get Coca Cola with high fructose corn syrup in Somalia, if you want to. In my opinion, the issue is: do I choose to buy and drink it? Every country has advantages. I love the way many French women dress (or don't dress). And many Italian women have really nice legs from walking in those deformed, expensive Ferragamo shoes. But I still like it here best.

The US, for all it's faults, has the most stable government on the planet, millions of people go about their day to day lives in it, while a small group of paranoids has been predicting it's demise since John first grew a Birch. Interesting time when I went to find a simple pie chart of the US budget's defense outlays - there seems to be all sorts of them saying all sorts of things. Most of the ".gov" sites list it as 21% of the budget, but it seems the War in Iraq has been "off budget", and when that is taken into account, it rises to 58% of total outlays. The bottom line is that spending for the "war on terror" are way out of line given the actual threat, and the cash being allocated to it has created a massive new sinkhole for all our tax dollars to disappear into rivaling Medicare and SSI. |

X2 on that last paragraph. What is really disturbing is that I was watching an interview of Lindsay Graham over the weekend, he want's to stay there forever. More of "Shooter's" 1% solution.

In spite of that, we seem to want to give them even more responsibility. This is like a guy who tells me his whoring, lying wife is doing every guy in town. He can't divorce her for whatever reasons but he is thinking of having another child with her? WTF??

My sister just migrated to France, and I dont believe I would like to live there. I surmise that one can find good and bad in just about any country on this planet, and it boils down to a personal choice as to where one would prefer to live. Thank-You for responding.
