MB Roadside Assistance changes?

Anyone else get a letter in the mail indicating that Roadside Assistance as we know it is going to go away for many of us? In a nutshell, if you have a used MB out of it's factory warranty, and don't have it "regularly serviced" at a MB dealer, the service is no longer available. Bummer, but I guess the writing's been on the wall for a while. No more bragging to friends about the sticker inside the glovebox door. Luckily, I have never needed their assistance, but it's nice knowing it was available. I have AAA anyway, so not a real loss for me.

Yeah, got mine a while ago, it's been discussed, but most companies are cutting back, why not MB?

At least that's what a bean counter will say.

I am disgusted that MB would renege on a promise which is what I consider the sticker to be. Then again, have you seen what they have done with prices for parts for the older cars?

There is a reason consumer reports and others have dramatically lowered their ratings of Mercedes Benz automobiles. Lexus took over for a reason, they waltzed in and delivered something known as 'Customer Service'. Imagine that.

IF:

your car is under factory warranty or starmark you're okay

you spend $100 per 18/mo (at one time) at a dealer, per year you're safe.

you purchased your car from a Mercedes Benz dealer, new or used you're safe.

you can't expect them to support you, if you don't support them, correct? (I believe this also applies to the DADT thread )

I have my service done at a variable of places, first, independent shops, foreign domestic or otherwise (varies on job) second some dealer specific stuff, or myself I always meet or exceed their new requirements... seriously? buy 2 sets of wiper blades a year and you're set. one wiper blade and a voltage regulator, 2 ball joints and a set of wiper blades. Does MB apparel not apply? buy yourself a sweat shirt or a polo.

read the letter front to back. any questions on it call the 800 number, or talk to someone at the dealer, they're all properly informed.

Don't turn to the forum (which don't get me wrong is filled with mounds of useful information information) that is laced with a bunch of over anxious opinionated people.

get your panties out of a bunch boys... Roadside will still be okay if you show your support for the people that have assembled your fantastic machines!

TIP: find an MBCA participating dealer, and get just a little more bang for the buck!

I checked and they do provide free towing to the nearest MB dealership. Also, in my case, because I bought the car from a dealership, it is covered.

I'm hurt/offended. I didn't receive the letter. Maybe they're trying to ditch me.

However, from reading the new rules and reg. on the Net, if what I read was accurate, here's how I understand it:
If you bought the car new, your car is Grandfathered in as my car is, regardless whether or not you ever spend parts or repair money with an MB authorized dealer.

What I am not clear on is if your MB is Grandfathered in if you bought it used from an authorized MB dealer.

From my conversation with them, if you bought it used from an authorized MB dealer, you're in.

Correct. which Automatically qualifies my '95 E300 diesel purchased 12/31/08

in order to keep my '87 300D in, I'll have to continue buying parts via the service counter (MB of cinci made sure my name, address, telephone number, email address, and vehicle VIN's were accurate because simply buying parts counts)

my 240D hasn't moved in 2 years anyway....

Correct.

Not so. From what I gathered talking to a rep, you need to schedule a SERVICE.

I suppose that you will want me to lend you my phone too so you can call my competitor?

Thumbs down That's a bad move.

I can prove that I did, so I will be ok. Just lucky I guess.

But I hate how the bean counters at Mercedes Benz pulled this stunt.

And I'd never buy another one from one of their dealers just to get this benefit. Their sales departments can go pound sand.

What next? Can't use the bathroom at the Mercedes Benz dealer unless you bought your Mercedes Benz from one of their dealers and can prove it?

Imagine the savings in butt paper, their accountants would love it.
