Granted I am only using it for 35mm not 6x6 or larger but I made a cold light head for my flatbed Agfa scanner from an 8x10 engarger I got when a local custom lab owner died. I had a piece of optical white glass cut as a surface and have done up to 20MB single image scans of 6x6, 4x5 and 8x10 negs and positives of my Dad's WW2 work and have done some work for friends of their 6x6 & 4x5 work (no one I know uses 8x10 anymore).

I do use an older Mac for scanning as the interface was easier than Windows.

I see a lot of Nikon V scanners (whiich are XP and Win7 compatable for $500 to $750 on Ebay so there is an alternative to new and pricey.

I agree, I do use digital for color (snapshots) because it's so convenient. I was never satisfied with the dynamic range of color film and digital is even worse. At least I can shoot in RAW and try to do some magic in photoshop now. I still prefer B&W film over any of this stuff.

I too use digital for B&W and Sepia then PS it to what I want. I get odd looks when I start hanging filters and nets in front of the lens but I know what I am after.

You should have seen the look I got when I was changing lenses and the kid next to me saw the Dior net stuck on the back of the lens with "snot tape"...still the best shimmer net I have ever used.

I did a "boudior" shoot for a girl I know who is an "exotic" dancer and now I am getting requests for the same from "working" ladies.
