The SAMSUNG line seems to be developing a reputation as a dog of a manufacturer of TV sets.
The problem I'm hearing from folks is that some TV stations' PSIP information isn't being decoded properly...and almost all of the complaintants are SAMSUNG owners. Channel memory is another symptom of SAMSUNG's lack of quality. Instead of using the "branding" number ("You're watching FOX25 [Which is actually the RF channel 17].), you have to punch in 17.3 to get the FOX25 signal, which is branded as 25.1...and of course, the PSIP information is also missing or "not available." And, as Craig already pointed out, these things are as stabil as a certain lineaged Bill Gates branded product of dubious character...WINDOWS anything. Wanna' watch TV? Reboot, get a beer and hope for the best.

My samsung 32" has been going strong for over a year so far....no complaints. Hopefully it lasts more than 2 years!

My comfort level on purchasing a television: Must not be more than $500. Bought a Sony Trinitron 20" around 1990 for $700, only lasted 4 years - swore off the brand and any pricey electronics after that.

Check to make sure you don't simply have an "air gap"-- one of your video cables has come loose.
Also, check the video inputs into the television to determine if that is the problem. If you're currently sending video into HDMI input 5, unplug it from there and insert it into input 4, etc. That'll tell you if the problem is from the source or within the television itself. Do you still get menu messages on the screen? If you do, then you know the television still makes video and the problem is a cable or video source. If that doesn't help, send video into the television from different sources entirely. Hook up a camera or something, even if it's into analog inputs. If you get video from the camera, then the problem is likely from your carrier. If you still have video on other televisions in the house, maybe the problem is with the cables leading to the television.

I did most of that, checked cables, changed inputs etc. I swapped my Sony flat tube into the same spot (same box and cables) and that works fine.

You mentioned you can see menus? As in the on-screen TV menus? If those are working then the issue is something with the inputs.

It works fine in the non-HD cable box location.
Maybe I was supposed to switch boxes when Comcast changed their service ? Just checked, not the case. I'll try an HDMI cable tomorrow... instead of the regular cables.

What kind of input were you using from the cable box to the TV, HDMI?

Try HDMI if you have a cable, you should get better picture quality anyway.
