HERE'S AN EXAMPLE: .AIR AMERICA .The show changed all right...it got yanked off the air...or...excuse me...it FOLDED DUE TO LACK OF SPONSORSHIP. (Better phrasing for the faint of heart.)

That, maybe, proves that some shows have to pay to stay on the air. Shows do buy airtime. Why do you think you see so many "Tony Robbins" or "Wonder-Whatever" infomercials on some TV stations? Those folks PAY the TV stations a set-dollar figure and it is, many times, used as "filler" for time that couldn't be sold for a higher dollar amount.

See above. And, if that's the case, someone wants others to see/hear the message.

Legit question. But then, again, who cares? It's on the air and we all know that air-time IS NOT FREE... Here's a question back at ya'...Who's funding AIR AMERICA? OH! WAIT! No one wanted to fund it! That's right...NO ONE WANTED TO WASTE THEIR MONEY ON A LEFT-LEANING/ENSCONSED TALK/SCREAMING-SHOW. It couldn't even qualify for funding from the The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

How's that for ironic?

I suppose you have to be a particular kind of "Left" before a lefty will throw someone else's money at you (Thank goodness there's some ironic sense in that line of thinking!).

I guess that's why Capitalism works the way it does.

Communism doesn't fit too well into that type of business plan.

They want you to run their stuff for free and have someone else pay for it.

Capitalism - 1
Communism - 0

Back when I was on the local School Board I got upset when folks told lies about me. I talked to my Lawyer about suing for libel.

He said that basically the courts will not touch libel against an elected official, so I guess that makes it open season on any political figure. Anybody can say about anything about them without fear of legal consequences.

As an elected official I found that troubling.

I still do.

I agree that is troubling. I'm wondering if the courts possibly know that there is no possible way to handle the volume. Lies told about politicians are way numerous.

Yes.

On the other hand a lot of them are probably true!

During election time I suppose the courts would not be able to get anything else done!

Beck is on the air in England because his show is on Fox News and Fox News is owned by News Corporation which also owns Sky News.

Sky News has access to all of Fox's programming so they decided to run Beck's show.

It is shown without advertising because advertisers have told Sky News not to run their ads during his show.

Spaces where ads would be are filled in with news or sports reporting.

Air America: it seems that the right does better on radio and the left does OK on cable, Bill Maher, Jon Stewart, Colbert Report.

It comes down to the demographics. Younger people watch TV and the Internet. Older people use the radio.

Limbaugh had a TV show for a few years and it was a total ratings bomb.

Limbaugh's show is on in the middle of the day when the older folks are up. The Daily Show and the rest are on late at night when younger people are up.

None of this just 'took place'. Demographics is a science and there is big bucks riding on the information. If Air America had delivered the auds advertisers are after it would still be around.

Of course, it did help to get Senator Al Franken into office.

Just a case of not letting the truth get in the way of a good story.

How do they know that it wasnt true?

Over here, truth is not a defense in libel, you have to prove that it was in the public interest to do the disclosing.

Holding any public office can be a PITA, there are always too many social climbers trying to use it in their quest for power.

Anything involving some ones children will be nasty as every ones child is an angel in the parents eyes. Its always the systems fault & when you are part of that system, watch out !!

yeah, you might agree with a person about 99 of 100 things but if the thing you disagree on negatively affects their child you will be hated.

It taught me to understand why long term politicians are so good at not answering questions.

That's probably true if you define "younger people" as the 50-70 age group and older people as the 70-dead age group.

I don't know anyone under about 40 who actually gets their news from TV or has time to listen to idiotic talking head TV shows. I guess some people still listen to radio in their cars if they have a daily commute, and I assume that parents with really young kids still watch kids' TV stations. My kids never listened to the radio because they grew up with portable music devices of various types, and they stopped watching the idiot box as soon as they discovered the Internet. My teenage daughter doesn't even own a TV anymore, and I don't believe she has ever owned a radio. These technologies will be completely dead in another generation.

There's another infamous shooting of a nine-year-old girl that is making headlines this week in Tucson. This time, we wonder if the rest of the media will bother to cover it.

The little girl's name was Brisenia Flores. She lived near the border with her parents and sister outside the town of Arivaca, Arizona. On May 30 of 2009, a woman named Shawna Forde, who led an offshoot unit of Minutemen who ran armed border patrols for patriotic "fun". Forde's gang had decided to go "operational," which meant they concocted a scheme to raid drug smugglers and take their money and drugs and use it to finance a border race war and "start a revolution against the government". They targeted the Flores home, which had neither money nor drugs, based on dubious information. They convinced Flores to let them in by claiming to be law-enforcement officers seeking fugitives, then shot him point-blank in the head when he questioned them and wounded his wife, Gina Gonzalez. And then, while she pleaded for her life, they shot Brisenia in cold blood in the head. (Her sister, fortunately, was sleeping over at a friend's.) You can listen to the wounded mother's 911 call here:
