No, but I am saying that there are 2 ends of the equation. Student and teacher. You can push one group to get better results but since you cannot push the other group, the results will be limited. Sure, it will be improved over a case where BOTH groups are not pushed at all but it will fall short of the results where BOTH groups are pushed.

They are merely quoting facts from the US Dept of Education......

wow, I had NO idea so many folks would get their panties in a wad over this. It is, IMHO, not just a problem in WI, but everywhere, between poor administrators, federal mandates & tests, NEA and union issues, etc. teachers are, for some reason, not preparing children for the real world. And that is almost criminal.

I think education s/b back to the basics: math science, phys ed, reading writing. sh%tcan all the feelgood stuff, and if a school doesnt perform well, axe the ones at the top first, starting with the state administrators.

Reduce adminsitrative positions. Stop making coaches principals, unless they have the proficiency and a dedication to education. Schools that consistently do poorly should have their organized sport activities suspended until things pick up.

AMERICA is robbing children of their intellectual growth. Lots of blame to go around, including lazy parents, stupid parents and parents on drugs. schools must overcome that by looking back to earlier times when America was agrarian and continued education beyond the basics was frowned upon by the populace in general. Schools need to take the initiative and stop making excuses why they cant do their mission. If some think it too difficult, then PLEASE find a new career. education is the most important direct act we as a country can do to ensure sucess not only for our children, but also the country.

Incompetence by association with a writer he doesn't like?

That is a reasonable approach but as I said, for full results you have to be able to flunk out the poor students that cannot and/or will not learn. That way you don't have to teach at the lowest level.

A private school based education will ALWAYS trump a public education because of management structure, the education level of the instructors, class size and class priorities.
That is simply false. I'm the product of a private education myself and know well that it is vastly superior to the public education I see most of the kids in our district recieving. However, I'm also aware of kids in private "religious" schools who I would consider to have the educational level of a potatoe.

Facts that they probably twisted and stats they probably spun. CNS is a far-right organization that has no interest in an objective portrayal of anything. They have a history of falsifying documents:

http://old.nationalreview.com/kerry/kerry200410041223.asp

Perhaps if you posted the same information coming from a reputable news source, it would be worthy of discussion, but the tripe coming from these clowns is like asking Sean Hannity to give us an unbiased report on Obama. Fat chance.

I infracted one person for changing another person's post which completely changed the meaning of it. I will do that in the future as well.

A lot of name calling and personal attacks as well.

STick to the subject and provide facts please.

I have given warnings and infraction points but some of them have short durations to allow folks to cool off and live again.

I'll be closing the thread if it continues to go downhill.
I very much tried to keep all of my posts civil and factual. I think for the most part most of the posters were civil. With the exception of a few times.

Regardless, good work moderating.
