Tried the Animal Control route

A.C. officer "talked" to "Owner".
[Animal Control ordinance does not apply to Cats.]
AND Captain in charge told me "trapping" is Theft.
(They don't have room for all the "donated" animals dumped on them is this "wunnerful" economic climate)

Operating Anything other than a slingshot in a residential area (here) will make you the guest of the county.

Damn Feline (Male unfixed) has taken to pissing on our front porches.
"Ain't nothing like semi-aged cat piss smell first thing in the A.M. on the way
to get the paper."

Mothballs dipped in catnip
I Like the Cayenne Pepper idea ,Too.

All else failing, purchase a "Tanned Hide" of the same color as the Miscreant
and mount it on a Stick across the street from the "Owner".
[Cat Terrorism?]

if it was a person they would be guilty of tresspassing so why would they call it theft???i say trap it and haul it off 10 miles in the country.if it comes back catch it again then take it out 20 miles.neighbor says anything to you,say you noticed it wasn't around anymore and thought he was keepin it in the house.

I had this exact problem a while back. I hate cat tracks on my cars. We got a free lab mix puppy and an invisible fence for him. It is the kind that doesnt use wires but has a transmitter in the house that has a range of 90 feet in all directions. We didn't get the dog to cure the cat problem, but it sure fixed the problem. Cat hasn't been back.

I think People have more understanding of the Law than Cats do

If you trapped a Person that was trespassing that would be false imprisonment.

I believe the Law is on the Cats side. They are considered free roaming Animals and are allowed to go where they want to.

The reason trapping a Cat that ends up belonging to someone is theft is that Cats are considered Property under the Law even though they don't have much cash Value.

I did not own even one Cat for like 31 Years. During that time I have never found them to be so bothersome that I wanted to shoot one. I always looked at them as part of Nature.
Now, in 31 Years I have stepped on enough Dog Sh** that I have a slight prejudice towards Dogs (ya they also Pee on things to like your Tires); but I still would not shot a Dog.
And, then there is Bird Sh** on your Car; much worse that Paw Prints.

At least I My area when one Cat disappears another shows up to take over the territory. Meaning getting rid of one Cat may not solve the problem.

Coleus Canina is also known as the "pee-off plant" or the "scaredy cat" coleus This attractive Coleus has excellent foliage and small, attractive spikes of blue flowers in the summer. It releases a stench that cats just can’t stand. Thankfully it only smells to the human nose when touched! Could this be the solution to your feline intruder problems you’ve been longing for? The plant is an annual, but can easily be propagated and cuttings kept in a frost-free place over winter. Plants need to be established before the smell is released. They need to be in drier rather than wet soil and planted every 1-2 yards.

You could also try using the herb rue. The blue leaves are a lovely garden accent, but cats seem to hate the odor.

Cats are not keen on the smell of citrus either. So you could try using orange or lemon peel in your yard as a deterrent. Similarly some folks advocate coffee grounds, blood meal, cayenne pepper, lavender oil, lemon grass oil, citronella oil, peppermint oil and eucalyptus oil.

I am badly allergic to cats. I can go in a house where a cat has been and can't breath within about 15 minutes.

Yeah me too, one of my oldest friends in San Francisco (she is childless) owned 3 of them in her San Francisco apartment. "Hokum", "Aurora" and "Derek" (named after Derek of "Derek and the Dominos" in the famous rock band)

I have been allergic to cats since childhood and 3 of them boyz in the same place at once had me sneezing like mad, I couldn't stop, I was in real distress.

I have nothing against them though, and had a chance to get a really beautiful blue point Siamese one once. Someone told me yesterday though that it would have been ok because Siamese cats have fur -- not hair. Whether that is true I dunno..

But I think the hairless ones are ugly and creepy, they make me think of ET in that movie!

As a kid mom always had at least 1 Siamese cat in our household. All were female. I remember from time to time the local resident tomcats would come around the house at night, howling up a storm looking for sweet kitty. Mom did not approve, and took to keeping a bucket of water with some ammonia added at a convenient 2nd floor window. When Tom began a howling, he was greeted with a bucketful of stinky water. I don't think any of the toms ever got substantially soaked with the concoction, but it sure seemed to discourage their desires to meet up with the sweet smelling felines of the household.

About a dozen years ago in San Francisco, there was a very large colony of feral cats that lived near the parking lot outside the Condo complex where I was living and had my SEC parked.

But the cats loved to hop up onto the hoods that were very warm on cars that had just been parked in their assigned spaces (this was on Twin Peaks which often is VERY foggy, damp and windy).

And the cats would tend to scratch the paint on the cars too when they jumped on and off of them as their claws dug into the cars for purchase.

They were a REAL pestilence, made worse because people sometimes left food for them outside. which brought more and more of them.

Sometimes, then, I'd open the 3rd floor bedroom window when I saw some of the cats, and lob fresh eggs from the refrigerator in the kitchen, down at them.

Those eggs were eerily silent when I tossed them and picked up a LOT of speed when they went down 3 stories.

* SPLAT * when they hit!!! They achieved TOTAL surprise, and they say a cat is one of the few animals that can act as fast as they think, and when a high speed egg hit the ground near them , BOY would they run quick.

After some tries, considering the distance and wind, I got a lot better at it, and once I actually got a direct hit on the feral cat's back. from 3 stories up!! I doubt THAT one ever came back.

Those that mention to the owner to not have his cat in your yard, may sound like a good idea.

Has anyone tried to reason with a cat? Not gonna happen. Cats go where they want, they can't help it, which is why you need to have the cat make up his mind to avoid your property using some of the above suggestions.

I have an occasional cat problem, all ferrel, so I trap 'em and release far away. I know, now it's someone else's problem, but the woods can be a fun place for a ferrel cat.

What may help to keep cats out of your garden is this: http://www.shake-away.com/DomesticCats.php?page=DomesticCat

Personally I think shooting at cats is cruel.

It can be very hard to keep a cat in your own garden, they are good in breaking out.
