Cashews will have the same effect as moth balls. My cat will gag and run away at the mere sniff of a cashew.

A leaky compressor

Cats don't like hissing.

Or a water gun, cats don't like water.

Almost always in the grip. Look for a little overhang at the very end of the grip (bottom). The cover should come right off and conceal the co2 cartridge.

I could leave my air hose out there with a blower tip on it slightly leaking...

just wonder how hard it is to break a cat's habits? Won't it come back eventually?

You know, the cheapest and easiest solution would be to approach your neighbor and ask that he keep his cat off of your property.

If he apologizes no problem off of your back.

Or are you afraid of confrontation?

not at all. I am friendly with them.

I have not lived here as long as they have so there is a 'seniority' issue. and, they like to let the cat out to roam. The only thing stopping the cat is a wooden fence with large gaps on one side, and another that is short enough to jump over.

Who am I to ask a cat's owner to amend its behavior? I am not as convincing as T Walgamuth: "So I spoke sternly to the opossum..."

You can't train cats like dogs.

A few sprays with a garden hose nozzle, full blast, ought to be enough to deter him. They are trainable.

Hehehe, you're making the fatal mistake of treating the cat like it has the thought of a human.

Talk to the owner, then open up the artillery of moth balls, cat nip, and air pellet guns

It's worth a shot. A friendly, "Hey your cat has been doing some crap to my yard. Can you help?"

Any answer but a yes is your permission for counter measures

Cats will do as they please unless your neighbor locks it up. An older cat used to roaming? I'd start with a squirt gun/super soaker full of water or a hose if its handy. Squirt gun/supersoaker full of vinegar would be next, and if the dumb animal still is dumb, an Airsoft pistol with biodegradeable BB's (yeah, stealthy).

I've got a local dog that likes to *rap in our dogless yard and we are at the airsoft sniper rifle stage.

Of course, you could offer to get the beast fixed.

I had this same problem with my neighbor's cats. Pissing on my property, crying and in heat at night, etc.

I went to grocery store, purchased in bulk powered cayenne pepper. Dashed it in areas the cats would visit.

They get it on their paws, lick their paws and are not a happy cat. They remember this and don't come and visit any more.
