Besides, that was then-this is now.

That might be one way to rationalize it.

But, I'm not convinced.

So let the rest of the world go. They all agree so let them all go put their necks on the line. Why should we do it? What will it profit us?

That's the thing about a revolution different from an evolution -- you don't know.

Dubyuh was authorized by Congress, making his little adventures legal.

Congress has not authorized President Obama to conduct military operations. Under US law, he cannot send US forces into armed conflict without Congressional approval UNLESS the United States is in immanent danger of attack.

At one time Col. Daffy had a nukular R&D project. Coincidentally, shortly after we invaded Iraq and emasculated the Iraqi military, he dialed-up the English to talk to the United States about renouncing nooks. Which he did.

So now we don't even have the Dubyuh figleaf to conceal our naked ambition.

What ambition would that be? Fame and fortune?

Yes but what is the difference to us as to whether we intervene or not? IOW, if we don't stick our neck out, what do we lose as opposed to sticking our neck out? Are they going to give us a special price or some sort of consideration if we help the new admin get into power? Whoever wins has to sell oil anyways.

It would seem that Gadaffi has offered a cease-fire, in view of forces being rallied against him.
I am not convinced, and feel he is just buying time. Surely his people have moved him to an undisclosed location by now.

If he is not nuetralised now..he will come back again...

As Bot said I'm not to crazy about Presidents having there own little wars without congress getting involved, more so since were already involved in 2 and have substantial assets in Japan now helping them.

Now that we have committed to intervene and since we will do 95% of the fighting since the Europeans are useless, well its a slippery slope.

Now if Ghadaffi still wins were screwed, if the rebels win and this is handled correctly, and a good government is formed we might come out ahead, although its very uncertain.

Problem is air power might not be enough to change the balance of power unless it gets low and starts attacking Ghadaffi's front line forces...this means boots on the ground for spotters, and it starts from there.

Problem with "limited police actions" or whatever the BS term for it is, is they are well useless, either go all the way or stay out. No such thing as limited killing and shooting for the people doing it.

None. NATO is more than capable of addressing this with an international consensus. As already noted, the issue isn’t the removal of Gaddafi, but US involvement.

As long as NATO and the UN say it's okay, who needs Congress?

Just a bit of a practical observation.

Ghadaffii is what, 70 years old? Even if by chance he does remain in power how much longer would he be around for? 5-10 years maybe? To be honest he hasn't looked too good in most of the recent picture that i've seen. Unless he pulls a Castro I doubt he would be in power for much longer.

So the question becomes who would most likely take over after him and would that person be better or worse?
