I heard that the more satin it gets, the easier it is to clean. Sherwin Williams has even got a demo where they paint the surface and cleaned it with a rag and water with no issues.

However, I have also heard that satin paint will show out blemishes in the surface. What about with Knockdown texture? Will it hide the imperfections well?

I haven't heard the name "Porter Paints" since I left Louisville, Bob. How wide of an area does their sales effort cover?

They are a PPG company so I guess everywhere. I never had anything stand up as well as they do. Did a strip and paint (two coats) on the exterior trim and garage of a buddy's place. Still was holding up 10 years later. PO of my current house used it on the interior. Looks great and is wearing well.

Eggshell or satin "matte" finish is the best choice if you want something that can withstand surface dirt and endure cleaning...even with knock-down texture surfaces.

Although glossier finishes are the best for cleaning, surface imperfections are REALLY visible, like patches that weren't properly sanded or even drywall and plaster sections that aren't perfectly even.

Want to really hide dirt? Go with a satin faux finish!!

That isn't happening. There is NO Porter Paints for more than 100 miles or I would certainly check them out.

Is there a place that supplies paint to auto body shops? Do they sell PPG paints? Maybe you caould talk to them about getting some Porter Paint for you in the next shipment?

Paint

You are paying for the solids in the paint. If you buy cheap paint, you have to buy more to get the coverage. Some jobs require more than one coat of primer. Buy the best primer you can afford, and tint it if you have to. Even primer won't stick to greasy surfaces. Clean surfaces with the old-fashioned TSP and bleach solution then rinse. Remove all pieces of loose paint and sand smooth if necessary.
Recommendations: Behr paint and Zinsser primer.
