I junked my Jetta, so me 100000 VW 0

IMHO its the only logical way to repair a VW, I'm sure it went over to Japan and right now is part of a good car like a Honda or a Toyota, maybe even a Lexus if its really lucky.

Simple head gasket job became total top head rebuild. After that I did a total front and rear suspension rebuild.

I bought my '87 Toyota MR2 (a car I wanted when it was new, but my ex who soon became old, did not want me to buy) four years ago when it failed the emission testing in Travis County.

The previous (original) owner spent $1500 replacing the timing belt, the cat, and paid for a total tune-up, yet it failed the emisison test.

While messing around, I backed out the idle speed screw to see if I could get rid of the 600 RPM to 2500 pulsating idle and the o-ring came out in pieces.

I installed a new o-ring and the car ran like a champ. For about a buck, I changed a loser into a car that has given me 40,000 miles and is still worth what I paid for it or more.

Volvo red blocks are so easy to work on. I have the timing belt down to 20 minutes.

Me 1, Ford water pump 0, in the parking lot of a motel outside San Fransisco where I wasn't even authorized to be (Navy "A" school rules), using tools I bought at the parts house for 20 bucks and still own and use.

Me 1, Chrysler 360 that totally didn't belong in the '63 Dodge Dart I installed it in 0. This happened in high school, and my first design engineer job as I designed some engine mounts to make it work with a slant six K-member, showed it to a drunk machinist, and he made what I needed.

OTOH, me 0 Zenith carbs 2. The '71 W114 I bought didn't run right. I rebuilt the carbs, and then it didn't run at all. I was out about four bills total to get a decent gaspot mechanic to get it working right.

my most memorable fix.

3am start on a road trip to Baltimore from Cincinnati in a 83 5.0 Mustang convertible. Water pump went out on the highway in western PA, walked to next exit, bought 1/2, 9/16 and 5/8 wrenches and a screw driver and talked the guy at the station into taking me to buy a water pump about 5 miles away, replaced pump on highway, added a gallon of water then filled it up at the same gas station. drove all that day then bought a scalped ticket to see Cal Ripken break Lou Gehrigs lifetime consecutive game record with 2131 games

62 MG Midget. Pulled the engine and transmission when I was 17 in order to get the transmission rebuilt and install a new clutch. Got the confidence to attempt it my replacing the motor mount on my prior car, a 1962 Buick Special.
