I don't think that a scooter allows for a very generous lean angle. He leaned it over too far and one side of the black structure flanking the rear wheel made solid contact with the pavement and levered the rear tire up a bit.
Here's a good one:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Up2UvuRLdTE&feature=relmfu |

I think he freaked out a little when his foot hit the pavement.
My first bike is most likely going to be something used and inexpensive. The Ninja 250 before 2008 had a nice low seat height. I'm open to most anything with good handling and enough power to comfortably take the highway to Reno and back. I'm very enthused with Ducati, but it's very unlikely I'll get one as a first bike.

That one is funny. I once had a front master cylinder fail and lock up my front wheel; ended up laying in the road looking like an idiot. |

At about :41 - :43, he was putting his left foot out, it sort of looks like he got some body work contact with the road on the low side and transferred weight off the wheels, then it slipped out from under him. Inexperienced rider; too fast for the corner, and putting a foot out with a flip-flop!!! This guy's bucking for a Darwin Award.
Scooters don't have the turning lean clearance that a real bike does. If you want to start out with a bike, something around 350cc to 500cc, depending on your size. A smaller person would go for the lower, while a fat guy like me needs the extra power to haul his weight around. At higher speeds, the heavier, larger wheels of a bike act like gyroscopes, to help with the stability of the bike. A scooter has such small, light wheels, there isn't enough mass far enough from the center to give any help. The first tool any new rider needs is a sense of extreme paranoia: Yes, everyone IS out to kill you. You are not just imagining it, they really are. Helmet, jacket (leather, preferably), long pants, and good boots/shoes. Even at 30 MPH, bugs hurt. At higher speeds, they hurt worse. Protect yourself. |

At some point I'm going to buy myself an early (carb'ed) M900 to play with.

Bought our bike late last year. 2011 883 Super Low. Got a good deal with an engine guard, 2 up seating and 2 Rider's Edge classes. So far I passed it and got my written test done so I got my motorcycle endorsement.
Rode around the neighborhood but on the 3rd day, took it on the highway and got up to 50. Baby steps

Thanx. It was more expensive for 2 tone but we got it less than the black MSRP, 2 up seat and foot pegs for the passenger and the engine guard. All mounted and with the 2 Rider's Edge classes, I think we made out ok.
