Syn oil has smaller molecules than dino oil. That is why it can 'expose' a leak in an older car.

When I was at BIG OIL we tested Syn oil in some of our field trucks that had 250,000 miles on them and they all leaked like crazy from the front and rear seal. We replaced the seals and drove the same engines another 250,000 miles with no leaks at all.
