Syntheic oil causing a leak?

I know in old cars synthetic can clean out gunk that holds things together, but I have a low mileage Jeep with the Hemi motor. Just changed oil and put in synthetic, now a hose connection to the oil cooler is leaking like crazy. Could the oil cause this or is it just a coincidence? Only have 24k miles.

thanks

I've heard of it happening, but it hasn't been my experience personally. I suppose it's possible, but could just be a coincidence.

Synthetic oil does not cause leaks, but it might expose them....

Any good oil with good detergent will clean things out. I have personally put synthetic oil in many cars without any issue.

Dino is better. (INCOMING!!!)

Or as a dear departed member once said, 'I never change the oil. My cars run fine and after a while I just trade them in."

I have had 5 Jeeps, all solid and dependable. 2 covered 5 years and had no maintenance beyond oil changes.

Turns out my filter (invisible from the top) was leaking directly on the hose connection. Guess I should crawl under there in daytime.

I put Mobil-1 synthetic transmission fluid in my '96 E300D (722.4) when I bought it at 249,000 miles and made a small existing front pump seal leak worse. Changing back to dino fluid did not help; I ended up having to get the transmission rebuilt.

OTOH, I put Mobil-1 TDT 5W-40 in the engine of the same car and had no problems at all. Now at 277,000 miles it neither leaks nor burns any oil between changes.

My 1981 300D has cracked/worn valve seals. It only seems to consume oil at cold engine temperatures because if I drive her on long trips there is no noticeable oil consumption. I have been using synthetic in this engine as well and the consumption is actually a little less. I say ++ to synthetic for any engine.
