Its because of the Band of Brothers and The Pacific, WW2 stuff is now hugely popular to collect.

Look at Garands too, big bucks!
As are uniform pieces and the like. A fixed bale front seam helmet can set you back a few hundred bucks; those things were fairly common at flea markets and junk stores when I was a kid. I have one I picked up at a flea market in Belgium for about $5 in the mid-80's.

I visited the Bois Jacques outside Bastogne a couple of years ago and ran into two Dutchmen with metal detectors. They said the woods in the area used to be covered in rusting relics, and the films changed that in a hurry. Now, you're lucky to unearth something even with a metal detector.

Mosin Nagants are still cheap, guess no one wants those... heard they're pretty decent shooters though. You can get em over here for $120 at the local Big 5 (sporting goods store) but I dunno if they're a gamble or what, I'd want a decent shooter not a useless museum piece

Funny you mention it -- I am picking one up this weekend. For under $500 in parts, you can build a pretty nice target rifle, from my understanding. I just want one as a collector piece. K98's were once cheap and plentiful, too -- and available at the local hardware store in droves. I don't see Mosins getting any cheaper!

If you get one that's got the old Russian imperial stamp on it-- pre- Bolshevik, they go for 500, esp if they are shooters.

The Finnish remakes and the sporterized carbines are both going for 300 and the long 31" barrel versions will match my Springfield.

They're way cheaper here. Cabelas has a big supply and they go for around 99 until they're on sale. They're a crapshoot. Some are good shooters, others are not. I have several. I bought them some years ago when they were 59 bucks on sale in the local Big5's.

They're cheap anywhere if you look long enough. Fleet Farm in WI has them for ~$90 (or did back in March when last I was there), and there's a place in MO that stocks them by the dozen for ~$100 as well. I need to brush up on what to look for in one, though; like many old military rifles, the "value" range varies wildly.

I'm going to hit Cabela's in St Louis this weekend. I'll have to check & see what they carry.

Just checked with Treasurydirect.gov I have a nice stack of series I bonds that I bought back in 2001. They are paying 7.51%. Better than the stock market the last 10.

Not bad rifles, $120 isn't bad I still see them for $89.99.

The Russians made so many that they are cheap for now, just wait until Tom Hanks does a Russian miniseries.

I got my 91/30 for free when I got my FN49.

Investment, what investment?

Stock market is a scam. All the news you read are 'old' news'. They all pump and dump. They all 'front run' the stocks. Buy and hold is wrong strategy. Even Warrant Buffet churns his holdings. We are the one holding the cans.

Don't get me wrong. I invest in the Market but I just do not listen to all the BS and do my own research. Decision in buying stock is easy, selling is difficult. If you have ammo, it is a good time to look around for bargains. I would not commit as yet.

Supposedly not too bad, my brother and I share a trust account we have never touched so far except for $19k I had to take out, and I was informed it was managed very well and earned $250,000 this year.

I have no mortgage on the place so there is no danger YET of having to buy one of these and take it to Loose Gravel Arkansas to live in:

(but I got their t shirt though!)

Glad the economy is doing somewhat badly and people are uncertain. Missed most of the good opportunities of 2008-9 due to being a 'fraidy cat, and it's nice to see some new ones arising. And yeah, it'll improve again. Eventually.

I'm investing my money in Iraqi dinars. I figure, "Hey, what else bad could happen to them"?

My stake in Afghani hash went up in smoke though.
