We have Fios and are happy with it for TV, internet and phone. But I'm pretty sure the "landline" is not actually fully a landline. If we lose power, the phone works only as long as the Verizon battery in the garage stays charged.
There were plenty of landlines that required batteries in the house -- "common battery" systems, where the batteries were only in the phone central office, were only fully implemented in the 1960s.
