We feed our dogs garlic in the flea season, since doing that the fleas have not returned.
A spray containing Diazinon will get rid of them. It may be banned on your side of the pond though. We bought plenty for our livestock just before they banned it here.

Look for Perma-Guard brand DE in feed stores. Just be sure you DON'T use pool filter grade or garage floor absorbent grade diatomaceous earth. The pesticide DE is ground in such a way that it can be breathed safely. Look for the words "food grade".
