I never tried it, but it is just a white powder. I would be afraid to get it in my eyes with my contacts though, I dont know what it would do but it just sounds scary. It is ultra tiny crystals. it gets under the fleas scales and cuts them open like little knives, they literally do bleed to death. I never had any issue with it in the carpets and throws.

We had german shepards thst had a flea issue. An old country vet told us that one.

Ive used borax in walls and behind appliances for the florida roaches, but I dont think I would put it in carpet, Id be afraid it would attack the carpet if it got wet. the diatomaceous earth is inert

Well it did not hurt 3 ninety pound sheps. As for as the carpets be sure to vacumn well, It used to be advertised as putting a "kick" in your laundry detergent(hence the mule team on the label) I never saw any damage to the carpets after use.

diatomaceous earth works really well. completey harmless to mammals. So it says on the bag.

You can buy it at home depot. It is supposed to kill anything with an exoskeleton.

I have used it before with great success.

That seriously is a good question!

It may be more along the lines of "insect exoskeleton" It kills spiders, bedbugs, fleas, ticks, roaches, centepedes, pill bugs, and much more.

I feel like a spokesman

If the problem persists or the recomendations do not work. Vets sell kennel spray. Not to be used on the animal. Seemed to work for us one time that we had an extreme infestation of fleas. I preffer the less toxic methods myself if they work.

Remember to read up on the fleas life cycle and how to defeat them. The new eggs hatch quite some time after they are present. So the treatment has to have some length.

The best thing that you can do is treat your dogs with frontline or another prescription grade medication and let the dogs do the work. Fleas need to feed and within a few days, your dogs will de-flea the whole house.
