US Military Advisors Being Sent to Uganda

President Barack Obama said on Friday he was sending about 100 U.S. military advisers to Uganda to support central African allies pursuing Joseph Kony, leader of the Lord's Resistance Army, and other rebel commanders.

"I have authorized a small number of combat-equipped U.S. forces to deploy to central Africa to provide assistance to regional forces that are working toward the removal of Joseph Kony from the battlefield," Obama said a letter to Congress.

But he asserted that U.S. forces "will only be providing information, advice and assistance to partner nation forces, and they will not themselves engage LRA forces unless necessary for self-defense."

Libyan rebels good? Yes. If you knew anything about the rule of Q-Daffy and the importance of that area to the US and Europe you would understand that this is not just good for the US but it is very good. Not to be greedy about this, but the rebuilding of the country and the re-hab of their oil industry is likely going to result in 100,000 US jobs.

Ugandan rebels bad? First, they are not rebels. They are a large criminal gang that is using heavy weapons to destroy what they cannot steal. Think of Al Capone with tanks. They have also been around for years and every country over there has tried to deal with them but they do not have the equipment to track them down. We do.

The area the LRA is trying to control is also rich in Rare Earth metals and oil.

Obama is doing what he took an oath to do: Protect US interests around the world. It is all just a part of the job.

You are correct. They are being called advisers.

Stop me if you've seen this before...advisers--then advisers get fired upon and they return fire, then troops are needed to protect the advisers--and so it goes. I think I've seen this movie before.

You may have failied to mention other procedures used by past presidents, to use covert ops and wage a secret war in other countries. Frankly, the transparency is refreshing, no?

Transparency is always good. Maybe this is a new start.

I spent a year in the mother of all advisory actions, so you're preaching to the choir.
