mircowave resistant wireless router?
I'm looking for a wireless router that won't drop when the microwave oven is in use. The Linksys router we have drops even LAN connections when the mircowave's going. It drops connections away from the microwave. Extreme range isn't a priority. The neighbors can get their own service. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Sixto 87 300D |

Just off the top of my head, how about a new microwave? Maybe something better shielded?

Get a better microwave
A microwave and all 802.11 devices run on the same frequency. If your microwave is leaky it will knock out the signal every time. -J

Go into you router and change the channel. Will correct the microwave issue in most instances.

Or are they on the same electrical circuit? If so, try plugging in the router somewhere else, or try a quality UPS for the router. It's possible that the oven draws a lot of current and produces a brown-out issue on that circuit that causes the router to dump. Maybe not radiation, just house wiring. |

[QUOTE=Yak;2813781]Are you saying the microwave trips even the wired connections and you think it's the radiation? If so, then I'd agree with the above and say you need a new microwave. That's a lot of energy.

I had a meter to measure leakage from a microwave. Never used it, couldn't find it if I had to, don't know if it worked. |

New Microwave, or just get rid of it. Your health will thank you!

I have a 1984 Kenmore microwave that is still going strong. I have not noticed any issues of it affecting my wireless signal. I wonder about the original Amana microwave from the 1070's that I remember......a HOT dog in 5 seconds and 6 was starting to burn.

Here is the one that I remember. As I recall there were $1000 back in the mid 1970's. That is huge money back then for an appliance.

When I first started as an appliance service technician, I probably worked on 4-5 of these Amana Touchmatic IIs every week. Most the time it was the keypad locked up... you could unplug the oven for a minute or two and then plug it back in. Bingo! Fixed! ...and Randy the service man is $40 richer. Gas was under a buck a gallon then too.

Thanks, all.
I switched from channel 11 to 1. Seems to do fine when the microwave's going. Next test is for someone to bring a Mac. LAN connection also drops when a Mac makes a wireless connection. Doesn't seem to mind iPods and iPhones. BTW, I don't think the microwave knocks it out directly. I think it messes with connections and reassigns IPs or something like that. Same thing with Macs. They come in and reprioritize something. Give me a 603 or something I understand. Sixto 87 300D |

It's been running nicely on channel 1. Why the heck do they ship it on channel 11?
