Approved in 2002 sounds like B.S. It would have been cheaper to hook up to the proper sewer. I seriously doubt the average plumber would go along with putting something in like exists there in 2002.

Worse of all if it is not a holding tank. The sewage effluent has to go at least twenty five feet through good soil to lose its potency healthwise.

Of course I do not know your building codes. Usually they are pretty strict for inside swimming pools. Where is the well or are you on town water?

Do you think he could hire a frenchman that cheap? And will he work nights?

Why is it that only I ask the important and relevant questions?

Its town water I think. The whole collection of buildings (3) are a ramshackle affair. I don't know where my water is coming from, but it's basically being stolen from next door.

Ive been paying a share of a town wastewater collection and removal bill for the last couple months. Essentially, out of the goodness of my heart, ive been helping the neighbors pay their bill.

The cleanout charges for septic tanks and holding tanks have been escallating like a lot of other things locally for a few years now.

Still better to have a decent septic system than pay the additional hook up and usage charges to towns and cities that are charged separatly in some locations for the last few years.

I do not know how much that sink is used in your location. I might just let the arrangement for the greywater produced from it continue to exist. Especially if what you have is basically just a holding tank.

Since the local enviroment department have become so involved in this area. You are looking at an absolute minumin of 10k for a system in our county.

We on average have had no issues with the systems that have existed for years. Nobody in their right mind wants a health problem. This current engineered type of approach is just getting too expensive. Usually resulting in a 25k overall bill far too many times for a system.

For those that do not know what a french drain is. Basically a trench with a perforated pipe at the bottom. Covered well with a menbrane and then gravel poured in to the top.

They are seldom used locally and if so for drainage. If used as part of a disposal system there would have to be a tank in the system to separate the solids out or the pipe would fill with them.

With no pipe used they might get by I suppose for quite a long time. With the last part of the gravel refill as a soil over yet another membrane to eliminate any odor.

Hopefully many of you still live in areas where septic dispsal systems are pretty easy to construct and cheap as well. In most types of soils without a lot of clay content they can be fairly simple reasonably cheap and work well.

Thanks for that tip, after looking at that, I am now reconsidering adding a bathroom to my home work shop. I'd have to go thru two floors to vent it, so I always figured it would be too expensive, I'll check my local codes and see if I can use one.

The house next door to us was scheduled to be torn down years ago. They dug down, cut the main sewer line and capped the end coming out of the city line, leaving the house side open. Soil here is very sandy. House was not torn down and eventually renovated. Contractor either refused to believe my account of a non-functioning sewer line or just ignored it. 4 people moved into the newly renovated house and used it for 3 or 4 months before the sewage started backing up into the basement. So you can get by for a fair amount of time without a tank

You should be good to go. If so, just remember to install the studor-'in line'. If the code nazis say no, and you live in a warm climate, you can run the vent outside of the house, thereby eliminateing having to rip out drywall- go into the attic-punch a hole thru the roof.
