The tax breaks they get that others don't is de-facto subsidization. Removing those breaks isn't punishment. Paying far less taxes on income from investments than the average joe pays on income earned by actual work is welfare for the rich. It's no different than corn subsidies or cheap grazing leases on public land.

C'mon Tom- that's silly and you know it. Liberals want more money to make poor people have X and Y so that the injustices of life are not so bad to them. JR was just posting that exact need and he wants other people in society to pay for what he perceives (to himself) as injustice to some. The cost of the injustice would be passed along to rich people. Every single individual's view of social injustice is different, and who should bear the cost of such injustice is also different. I am not part (so far) of the group which calls for retribution of injustice to myself; nor am I part of the group which calls for paying retribution to those that ask for it.

Those that ask for payments in kind of anything from one group to another yet do not speak for the whole of the paying group are shills, are false and are not representative. Your argument, and his- both being the same- has no such element, and is weak. Would you want me to speak for you - as liberals wish to speak for others - and how they should spend EVERYONE's money ( including non liberals) ?

Could you define "actual work"?

Is it work that is physical?

How much physical work does a teacher do?
Or a Manager?

So with that fractured logic, only lumberjacks actually perform work, and everyone else is some sort of goldbricker? Where's the line of demarcation in your worker/slacker spectrum?

Exactly- what is "actual work"? Will only lumberjacks and bricklayers who actually lift the bricks be paid the most since they "actually work" the hardest?

Generation of a product or result is the consequence of work. A cardiac surgeon only lifts a scalpel weighing a few ounces during a procedure. A lumberjack may swing an ax or wield a chainsaw that may weigh tens of pounds. Do you consider the lumberjack the only individual who performed work in this comparison? Do you feel the income disparity between the surgeon and the lumberjack to be unjust?

More importantly is how Elchivito feels- he's the one that posted the "actual work" comment.

The market determines the worth of "work" ... actual or otherwise. I feel nothing - there is nothing to "feel"; it is what it is. Worth is worth what it is.

Supply vs. demand.

There ya go. Who's to decide what is work or isn't? The fair solution would be to consider all forms of income the same.

A flat tax with an initial deductable would be the most fair tax IMO.
