Jim, you need a ROAD TRIP! Pick out a nice destination, load in DW and go! The miles spent chatting with her about other things will help. Driving always seems to help clear my head.

Thanks all for the encouragement and support. Yesterday's done, and I know it'll be unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Wish I hadn't stumbled, but acknowledge that I'm only human..... and no more flawed than most.

Quitting is for me, without question. And it's me that I have to keep reminding that it ain't worth it to have a drink in the first place.

Counter app on my phone now says "1 day" - it'll go up from there.

A road trip for spring is in the planning stages..... budget allowing. And - watch out..... Korntucky is our likely end point.

I love Kentucky. What a beautiful place in the Spring! Just hang on until Spring and you'll have made it past the worst of it.

Check in here often. There's lots of encouragement we can offer.

Ya know Jim, I think I feel a Gathering coming on in the Spring at the Big White Queen Anne in Ky. Keep in touch and we'll work out some possible dates. We have a fair number of members within day trip distance.

Good for you. You'll get there.

FYI, I took off from work today to pick a colleague up from a psych facility. Last week he told his estranged wife he was going to commit suicide (She left him due to his excessive drunkenness after lots of stumbles -- it's been a long haul). She called the police and they talked him out of it and he committed himself.

On the way home today he admitted to me for the first time that the drinking was not somebody else's fault. He said he was all f'd up and didn't know if he could survive. I told him he is worth saving, worth the effort if he'll keep trying. I dunno.

Anyway, the coincidence of this thread and what my colleague is going through is pretty amazing.

My wife quit smoking maybe a dozen times, each time she made it a bit longer. Now it has been over 20 years for her.

Keep working at it and you will succeed too!
