Definitly worth it. No only are you getting a fully functional rifle which packs quite a punch for a mere 99 bucks, you are buying a cool piece of history. As for the cleaming part. Nothing hard about it at all. Some even shoot quite well. Just look for one with a decent bore if you can. They have been thru a war after all.

I still like the k31's, the Swiss make awesome rifles!

If you know how to shoot one its a flick of the wrist to reload, and since they are Swiss quality is second to none. Surplus ammo is match grade, again they are Swiss...they issue match grade ammo.

I think these surplus Swiss rifles, ie the K31, K11 and 1911 you can buy for $300, are the best $3,000 rifles you can buy. They can certainly shoot with some modern high dollar guns.

Or you can get the ZFK55, which will put 5 GP11 rounds through the same hole at 500 meters.

Their is an old story that a German Field Marshal was talking to a Swiss general and said, they could have half a million troops on their borders in 48 hours to invade. Which was twice the force the Swiss could muster. The Swiss general calmly responded that in that case he would simply have to order his troops to shoot twice.

Yes they do. I love my K31 and every time I'm in Cabelas there are a couple in the used rack that tempt me. But I don't think it's superior to a K98 in a combat situation. Of course that's just an opinion as neither I nor any K31's have ever been in combat. K98's of course. Now thats another story.

I'm actually contemplating another K98 purchase at present. I only have four after all. Nowhere near enough. It's a dreadful thing having an addition

What do you mean by fake?

My wife just tried to buy one for me as an xmas gift. I'd seen it in Cabelas a fwe days ago. Unfortunately I hesitated, which was stupid. I should have put it on layaway when I first saw it. It was in good shape, 350 bucks. She went there this afternoon. It was sold just before she got there...

They sell the waffen stamps now, so you can take a post war Yugo and turn it into whatever K98 you want.

Last I looked on Gunbroker mint, early war K98's were over a G note.

I think you'd need more than just the waffenampten to convert a Yugo into a K98. Different handguard, and hard guard attachment. Different bolt (in fact K98 bolts are longer than yugo bolts), you'd have to turn down the bolt handle, and in many cases blue the bolt as well. Not saying folks aren't doing it but I'm not sure how many are out there. I'd like a mint example too, but how do you know that any of them are genuine given the market in fakes and forgeries for any WWII German stuff. That's why I'm happy with my Russian capture ones. They are a mis-mash of parts, but nothing fake about them.

The one I've just missed out in was really nice too. Very good bore. Probably a real good shooter. Oh well...

I have seen some nice number matching guns with GI capture papers on GB but they go for a few bucks.

This is why I like Swiss guns, they never fought a war with their stuff so its nice.
