I wouldn't be surprised if there was a point where he was saying to himself "what was I thinking?"
So he was vying for a cush iob, a nice insulated stateside position, and stumbled into a dangerous situation? And you deem him a hero for this reason?

In spite of lots of jokes about NG and ER while in the military, these guys were anything BUT cowards. The cowards went to Canada.
Were you stateside for your entire term of service?

I don't at all see GW as a military hero. I DO see him as someone who met his obligation and got some military experience.

In B.O.'s case, he had zero military experience AND zero executive experience before stepping into the Whitehouse. This is actually not any bad reflection on him. It is a bad reflection on the electorate for giving an inexperienced person the job.

Let me say here that I don't think the B.O. is a particularly bad guy on a personal level. It's just that he is inexperienced with socialistic views that I happen to disagree with.
When you were a young man, and they sent you off to a foriegn land, that was a sweltering hot, triple jungle canopy, complete with stagnant water, snakes, lizards, mosquitos, monsoon, an elusive enemy, lack of a clear directive from superiors on-high, weapons that sometimes failed, a growing sense of confusion and fear for your very life...

I ask you.."Werent the best words you heard was when a sargeant told you -Pack your gear, you are going home-" ??

Is someone who worked as an electrician for a few years necessarily more qualified to head an electrical engineering firm than someone with an engineering degree who didn't?

It was called the "Freedom Bird" headed back "to the World."

If you are referring to me and my description..my words came from my head-I dun have a clue what this ft. polk thingy is..so its irrelevant.

What is interesting is the term..'Freedom Bird'..so by your own admission..serving in Nam was a sentence that stripped you of your freedom?

I think it's a plus BO does not have Dubya's military experience.
Bush never held a command position so he only took orders and never gave them, and was taken off flight status because he failed to show up for his physical. This after the g'ment spent considerable amounts of money to train him.

For what it's worth.....

The unit Bush was in was known as a 'Tiffany' unit and about the only way anyone could get into it was to be the son of a well connected Texas.

The joke was that the unit was being held in reserve in case the Veitnamese ever attacked Houston.

If you were not well connected you could still get in, but there was a three year waiting list.

I knew several people that tried to join at the same time Bush was a member of this unit and this is what they told me.

I simply can't agree with the first sentence. Military experience as it helps a Presidents perspective has nothing to do with "command experience." Having been in the military in ANY position, gives the POTUS the knowledge of what it's like to be that guy(or today, gals also) and be so susceptible to the decisions of a POTUS as Commander in Chief.

As far as GW not showing up for the physical, you obviously don't know the whole story. His unit was thankfully getting rid of the 102's. This meant that the pilots were retraining in the replacement aircraft. He had a short amount of time left which made it in impractical to train, thus he was basically cut loose.

He did not at all thumb his nose at an order as was implied by the liberal media led by Dan Rathers proven faked letter and the ensuing fiction.

Again, I'm not a GW fan, but I do resent the liberal medias repeating these lies and engaging in such character assasination.
