Mad minute?

Looks like a lot of fun, I wonder if my K31 can whop my friends K98 at this:
1943 Enfield No.4 MKI, Ten shots in nine seconds - YouTube

This guy knows how to shoot. In 1917, 10 Germans would have bitten the dust when they went over the top.

I can see why the Brit's held onto the Enfield for so long, a semi like a Garand or M1a couldn't really do much better.

1,050 yards, open sights, Swiss K31 7.5x55 Schmidt-Rubin 7.5x55 rifle - YouTube

Did I mention he was a good shot? Still just proves a K31 can engage at 1k yards, fancy modern sniper rifles eat your heart out.

I've got a No4 Mk1 and an Ishapore. I really love the sights on the No4.
I'd love to race the No4 against my M95 Steyr. never think of it when I'm out at the range.
Heres me shooting a can of that Tannerite stuff with the M95

A '03 Springfield and a Moisin-Nagant will hold their pown against these rifles, I believe. Which is why I own both.

After I retire, though, it will be time for a Barrett light .50, there are lots of squirrels where I am

Tannerite is fun. I once mixed five of the large bottles together and that was one hell of a bang

While the Brits would like you to belive that they held onto the Enfield because of it's superiority this is in fact not so as they were in the process of developing a "Mauser style" rifle because of their experiences in the Anglo Boer war when WWI intervened and put rifle development on hold. Thereafter nobody was interested in spending money on weapons and the Enfield soldiered on acceptably during WWII. It's a good rifle but no better really than any of the other major combattants arms of the period.

I own primarily bolt action military surplus rifles, and it is true the Enfield design was on the chopping block pre WW1, I personally like shooting the rifle more then the others I have. I've had the No4 for about 3 years and got the Ishapore a little over a year ago, because I was looking for another Enfield. The Engield has a nice combination of high quality parts and simplicity.

As for the metallurgy of the Ishapore. One thing about "low income" countries, they tend to put what money they do have into weapons. as a result the Ishapore I have is no less scary to put to my face and shoot then any of the other rifles in my collection. I bought the Ishapore from a friends dad, he had the gun for about 10 years before me, shot all kinds of ammo out of it, including commercial .308, no problems. I thought the Ishapore sounded a bit scary, but my friends family is the gun family in his home town, his cousin manages the sporting good store, and uncle owns the shooting range. I knew I was buying a good gun.

Honestly, a mid war production Mosin-Nagant scares me more then the Ishapore.

I pick up my new (to me) 1942 19/30 is a few days Can't fight the habit.

I don't think a mid war Moisin is any more dangerous than a pre-war example. The fit and finish is crap in comparrison but that was a function of the necessity of getting weapons to the front line. I've not heard of any incidents resulting in death or injury from anyone using one yet, and that must be of some relevance given the huge numbers that are out there.

I had a US Army 30-40 Krag. A family friend was helping me restore it when he passed away. when I got to the house after his passing, his dirt bag daughter from his first marriage (who i had never met) had broken into the house and stolen his entire gun safe out of the garage. Its been over a year now and no luck getting in contact with her. not willing to get into to much legal action over a $200 gun. Talked to the cops and since I got it some years back at a gun show and paid cash, and since it was over 100yo no registration was required... so I'm pretty much screwed. I hate it when people take advantage of someones death.

Big 5 around here has Mosin Nagants for 99$ every other week... recommended? Someone was trying to tell me it was too hard to take them apart to clean the cosmoline. I can't imagine an old Russian bolt action being that hard to clean.

Thats where I got my "new" one from. I've had a few Mosins, and have a 1898 M91 in the safe right now. Nothing hard about them at all.
