When mechanized travel started, that short century ago, it was theorized that the human body would fail if travel above 32mph were attemped. Might have the number wrong but the concept is the point. The sky is not the limit.

Their is only a limit based on the technology and knowledge we posses today, not tomorrow.
60mph used to be a big deal, as they used to say "A mile a minute!!" ![]() I think the universe might actually show us how to travel great distances. SERN has discovered particles that travel faster than the speed of light. We also know that the closer to the speed of light you get the slower time passes. So in theory if you go fast enough time slows down and you can cover vast distances in what feels like a short period of time. As to why aliens haven't visited us before; the universe is a big place, takes awhile to get around.

![]() The other problem with stating that people didn't think we could fly or using advanced technology as an example that we can do "anything" in the future is all of your examples are within the realm of physics. A human or matter traveling faster than the speed of light defies physics and the theory of relativity. So that is why it is hard for me to imagine we would be able to travel at such speeds. I think the best shot we have at traveling to different parts of the universe is with things like wormholes, etc.

As we know it today, yes. There was a time where Newton's laws were universal too. IIRC, when we went to the subatomic world, those laws were not useful.

That is true but here we are talking about traveling faster than the speed of light. The theory of relativity directly addresses travel faster than the speed of light as not possible. Very different than trying to apply Newton's laws to subatomic particles.

The principle is the same. Once it was thought that Newton's laws were absolute. I suspect they didn't know of the subatomic realm at one point too. Yes, the Theory of Relativity says it isn't possible. However, that is today. Tomorrow it could be that the theory does not hold under certain circumstances just as Newtonian laws don't hold in the subatomic realm.

Modern physics are based on what we know and understand today, that can and probably will change given enough time. Again look at was a scientific certainty a couple hundred years ago that was proven wrong.

But again, I don't necessarily disagree with you on the big picture that perhaps one day we will be able to travel across our galaxy/universe, just that most of the examples you've used don't work.
