Ice, ibuprofen, rest and a walking boot if you must get around.

This article has some good information about the injury and how to care for it. If you abuse it you might make things worse.

What is a walking boot? is it like a regular boot?

I will try that. I wish my truck was an automatic, pushing the clutch almost brings tears to my eyes.

I see the link failed to attach, so here it is.

A Walking Boot is a medical appliance you can get at a medical supply store. Wherever you buy it, though, I'd certainly suggest having it fitted properly by a physician or podiatrist. Truly "self-treating" foot problems can make them worse.

A customer just came into the shop and asked my why I was limping so bad. I wanted to tell her that I hurt my foot when I was saving an old lady from a burning house. But I couldn't bring myself to tell a lie, so I told her the truth which was that I was too lazy to put on my shoes last week when I went out to the mailbox and stepped on a pointed rock.

While I was limping around the shop, I tripped and fell, my daughter was in the same room and saw me fall. Of course me being me I said. "Help, I've fallen and I can't get up". My daughter who has a wicked sense of humor made me say " I'm an ass hole" 10 times before she would help me to my feet.

Just got back from the Doctors office. Evidently I had a pretty bad infection in my foot, a REAL NO NO for a diabetic. The Doc. took and exacto knive and cut a hole in my heal and out it came, it was some of the crudiest looking puss you ever seen. There was so much of it that it spilled over onto the Doc's Pants. The infection started going up my foot. The Doc gave me some high powered antibiotics. I will have to admit guys/gals I screamed like a girly man when he cut the heal. I'm a girly man..... I screamed like a woman.

Glad you went to the doc. Did he give you a walking boot or just a boot in the a$$ on the way out the door?

Heal quickly!

He gave me a shot to kill the pain while he cut the hole and the majority of the pain shot squirted out the hole I made last night. So my foot hurts like hell right now. No walking boot though.

Back when I used to do martial arts bruises were a fact of life -- I wasn't very good at martial arts...

Anyway, we used to go to a drugstore outside of New Orleans East in a Vietnamese community known locally as "Little Saigon." We would by an herbal tincture called something like "dit di jao". It is poisonous so cannot be used where the skin is actually broken. We'd rub that stuff onto the bruise and it would very quickly dissolve the clot. Go from blackish to yellowish in a day. Soreness would be gone, too.

Damned if I know what was in it, but it sure worked for me. I was an expert in its application!
