40 ain't old!!

I'm 43 in the best shape ever. I've been lifting on and off since mid 20's and running since HS. I was a slalom racer, any had surgery on my R knee about 4 years ago. Total waste, it's still trashed, but it's workable. I also changed my diet last fall and dropped an easy 15 lbs. I feel much better too.

Deep squats seem to make things better, but it could be a placebo. When I don't run on it for a week, the pain increases.

BTW: Graplr's a bad ass, I wouldn't mess with a wrestler.

One week away. I haven't got the training in I wanted to but I'm definitely in better shape than I was in January. I've lost 12 lbs, ran 10 miles last Sunday and am doing another 10-12 this Sunday then will start tapering. I've gotten the runs in but I haven't quite done the muscle/sprint workouts I wanted to. I know I'll be able to finish, it will just be how much I hurt afterwards. That curved wall at ~2 minutes scares me the most.
I wonder what the rules are for that, and what kind of grip is at the top?

It seems that if 3 people lay in a line feet to shoulders, with the top person grabbing the edge, the rest of the team could climb up a human ladder, and pull the last person up?

Armchair strategist here.

I guess the years of weight lifting, football and wrestling, as well as years of working on my feet, standing on concrete all day long has taken it's toll on this body.

Good luck, and enjoy the good type of pain afterwards.
Younger years? JP, you are only a few years older than me.

The older I get, the more I realize I need to take care of my body and self.

Ted, you are 43? Wow, I would have guessed almost 10 years younger.

PS- I almost have the wagon on the road. I just replaced the hatch locking mechanism (only missing a spring but I had the "new" one so I just used that). No the rear hatch opens and closes as it should. Waiting on the "new" lock from DAW and then I should be on the road next week. Just in time so the wife can drive my 2000 and I get to fix the air in her E430.

I'm pretty sure there are no rules on that. So your suggestion would work. I'm on a team of about 8 with 5 being younger than I so we may have to employ that strategy for the older members. In fact if you watch some of the youtube vids (not sure which one) there are indeed people doing similar to what you suggest.

I was too busy working 80 hour weeks in my younger years to even worry about my body. It's taken such a beating over the years, that I don't know if it will ever get back into good shape.

Multiple broken bones from football, multiple concussions from being a klutz, you know where this is going...

2009's broken leg had me down for 6 months. 2011's back injury had me down for another 4 months, and whatever is wrong with me now has had me down since January, and the next visit with the doc isn't until late July, so that's another 6 months. All this down time has allowed me to gain too much weight. I've gained about 60 pounds since '09. Can't lose it when you can't do physical activity.

Nah, right now, this old body isn't worth a crap. Maybe someday in the future I'll be able to do what I need to do to lose the weight, but right now almost all the muscles I had when I was younger have turned to jello.

Finished. I guess I should have trained more hills. I don't feel too bad right now but at about mile 8 after all those hills I was hurting pretty bad.

It was fun and I'm glad I did it.
