TT keeps prior years filing info on your computer which is good when you prepare fed and state taxes for 5 people. It also downloads and then compares mutual fund and stock data with last year and flags discrepancies. Still, I wish our taxes were simpler so we wouldn't have to constantly rely on this software. (Talk about government forcing you to buy a product!)

I think if you itemize, you might be able to do it.

I'm sure it is for business purposes, but the software itself will let you know...it probably brings up the scenarios under which you could deduct it...

If you itemize, it is, just as you can deduct the cost of paying a professional to do your taxes.

I am almost done with my taxes and TurboTax is asking for my parents taxable income because I cashed out my stock last year. It says this is standard for all people under 24... Lame?

But what would someone do if they were no longer in contact with their parents or an orphan that never had parents?

I hope adding in my parents taxable income doesn't change my refund.. I'm getting a rather nice amount back that I would like to keep.

I ain't biotching about that at all...
If you got a refund, it means that you gave the motherf**kers an interest-free loan for a year. Yay for you.

*Jeesh* spdrn, you make getting a refund sound like it's a bad thing...

It beats eating ramen-worms when the taxman comes a-callin' during the Ides Of March and beyond.

With every politician trying to buy a vote with my own money, changing the tax code "just enough" to make you "feel all warm and fuzzy" that you get to actually keep a little bit of your own pay, I avoid the need of having to scramble, at the last minute, to avoid the aftertaste of crappy food. I don't mind letting Uncle Sam play around with my filthy lucre...the trick is making sure you out-figured the Boobermint so that you end up on the right side of YOUR ledger...not theirs.

But hey...if you enjoy the intense feeling of impending financial doom, have at it. I've been there and it wasn't (nor' will it ever be) a fun feeling...but to each their own...

Thanks for the lack of tact and your insincere concern for my well-being. I'll take it under consideration and file it accordingly...

So far, I don't mind saying I'm winning. I sleep better at night and one way or the other, I don't spend a whole lotta' time worrying about who's getting ripped off. I learned along time ago that you're never going to win any p!ss!ng match with the Federales...so go into the tax season with more due you than you due them.

Solution to that is to have enough money in the bank or interest-free loan flexibility not to ever have to eat ramen Getting a refund is of course better than not getting one. However, owing slightly less than the legal limit or nothing at all is EVEN better.
