Actually except for the C-Class, the other models have gotten up to the "first home mortgage" MSRP!

A few years ago I could stroll the showroom and realistically select a model that could possibly grace one of my garage bays...not anymore!

I tend to feel that it was a newcomer to a limited market, that offered little, if any, distinction in that market. Like any luxe brand, whether it's cars, planes, yachts . . . there has to be some substantial distinction to lure those rarified buyers.

Yes, 99% of consumers, if not more, will never know where the name Maybach is from, but they weren't not selling to the 99%.

Yeah, I was at MB picking up an oil filter for my E55, and they had one of the new bi-turbo E63s in the showroom.


It was listed at 100k!


A salesman walked up while I was looking and said "Its one of the fastest AMGs that has ever been sold...." I replied "I agree, there is nothing faster than the depreciation on a new AMG" He didn't seem to like my joke.

Toyota had no qualms upgrading a Toyota chassis to sell in the luxury segment. Daimler on the other hand has a big problem making and selling anything equal to or better than a Mercedes.

Also maybe the Maybach has a bit too much plastic for such a pricey piece, but I'm only going by pictures.

Anyone who has driven a Maybach will understand how amazing this car really is. However, I believe that this car came around at the wrong time and by the wrong company. As much as I love this car and enjoyed every second behind the wheel of it the car just doesnt work now a days really. They took the S Class made it larger and put tons of more goodies into it with the exception of a couple small things. Getting inside one there is no expense spared of course. Being $400,000+ the price of a car like this that sells less then 500 a year is hard to do especially in down economic times. The brand many people do not know of and most would go with a Rolls Royce or a Bentley due to being familiar with them more. As the prices come down and they are I think you will see more people jumping in on the Maybach. I have seen many listed for around the $100,000-$160,000 marl. As much as I like these things it is a much smarter move to end the Maybach and put the effort to the S Class to keep it the car it always has been-Amazing!

I can never understand why people buy such outrageously high priced vehicles, but my guess is that its too plain for the super rich ostentatious crowd who want to show you how much they are worth.

If you spend 400K on a car, you don't want people confusing it with a 90K car, god forbid!
Looks too much like a lot of other mercedes, needs a 2 foot long gold hood ornament.

Someone clearly has never been driven in the back of his brand new 62S. The comfort and ammenities are not that of an 'outrageously priced vehicle'. A Maybach is for decadence on the INSIDE. They're roomier and more comfortable than most living rooms.

There's an old woman who's family has a VERY successful history in this country and is a member at the country club I used to work at.

No lie-- every year, she would purchase a brand new 62S to be chauffeured to and from the club, and her home was maybe half a mile down the road. Now she's going to be stuck purchasing some peasant's self-driven Rolls.

Well, here's my take- the cheapest maybach above is over 300k. In my opinion, there's not much difference in seat comfort between a car that costs 40 grand, and one that costs 300 grand, but I haven't sat in a maybach. As far as my personal a$$ is concerned, I'm plenty comfortable in a car worth less than 2 grand. I think the big difference is how much you want to pay. If I'm extremely comfortable in something that's a reasonable price, how much more comfortable can I possibly get?

The extra 250 grand is in letting people know you are driving a 300k car around, and for that, the maybach is just too homogeneous with a lot of other really nice cars from MB. Personally I find that old woman to be pretty silly and wasteful just to be wasteful.

Try going to a Porsche dealer, its $130k for anything interesting.

You need to have at least $100k to buy anything interesting from a MB or Porsche dealer.

Unless you want an E350 yawnmatic, than you can get those all day long for a bit over $50k.

I've seen a few of them in this area around Tyson's Corner, VA. I never thought for a minute that they might be confused with anything else, but then maybe I pay more attention to cars than a lot of folks do. I see a lot of Bentleys, Rolls Royces, Ferraris, Maseratis, and other exotic cars tooling around over here near my office. All of them seem pretty distinctive to me.

For car people, certainly its distinctive, but for a lot of people it may not be.

My own sister cannot tell the difference between a stingray and a corolla, unless they are different colors. Then its simply the "red" one or the "blue" one. If pressed, she might be able to observe that one looks "older"
